Aptitude test help courses

I am in the process of sending resumes to all the airlines, and am considering doing one of these aptitude courses. Although, the one that seems to be popular costs over $3K, plus with the travel and accomodation, days off etc. the cost goes up to around $4K. Not really an amount I feel like spending.

I have 4 mates who all recently applied for airlines, 2 got into Qantas, 1 into Jetstar, and none of them did any aptitude prep. The other bloke went for Cathay, spent the money on the aptitude course and then bombed out anyway.

What do people think about these courses, with everyone recruiting flat out at the moment, is it really worth the money?

i would recommend steven holding in brisbane. $500 for two days for the qantas course. I wouldn't have stood a chance without doing it. (but i'm not very clever). Have a good one!

You do not need to do a course. There is enough information out there to do the prep yourself. Any good book store has plenty of books for purchase which have the same sort of stuff you will find in any aptitude test.

Agree with Tempo. The thing I found is that the questions aren't really that hard. The problem is being put against the clock, so if you get some books to practice, you will become a lot faster and you will greatly reduce the number of silly mistakes that you make. As long as you put in the required work, you should be able to do just about as well as if you had done the course, but saving you $$$.

I had a very good run with the "expensive course", it helped me enormously, well worth the coin( got me in!).However I have read about and have close friends that do not speak highly of it. Your call.
Bill.

A mate and I did the Steven Holding for QF course which is Gold - got through..Agree with above its all about time pressure, although accuracy is just, if not more important. Be careful because i think some of the testing procedures may change in the near future, could be online testing soon with no cubes or diagrammatic, just verbal, numerical and pysc.. Although cant quote me on this...

Oval,

I would recommend avoiding PATS as I believe what they are charging is pure exploitation. As previous posters have mentioned there are others out there that can supply the same product at a fraction of the cost.
There is a benefit in doing these courses if you have not come across this type of testing before however $3000 to learn a few exam techniques is ludicrous.

PM me if you want the number of a guy out of Melbourne who does the courses for a reasonable price.
