Curry-Kenny to undergo heart surgery
Just saw that wife of local (QLD) aviation owner Grant Curry-Kenny if going in for heart surgery today. Thoughts go out to Grant, Lisa and their family.
Triple Olympian swimmer Lisa Curry-Kenny is undergoing surgery this morning to treat a heart condition.
The Commonwealth Games medallist, who lives on Queensland's Sunshine Coast, has a condition known as myocarditis in which the heart beats erratically.
During today's surgery a device will be implanted to regulate her heart rhythm.
Curry-Kenny, 45, says she was shocked by the diagnosis and is having to make changes to her lifestyle.
She had been in training for the world solo long distance canoe championship race in Hawaii.
She says she wants to warn other elite athletes not to push themselves too hard and to be mindful of their long-term health.

Wow how'd had thought such a fit young person needs such drastic med attention. And to think that being healthy, fit & young means yr gunna live for ever!! Hope she does well from it, a good sign for all of us to start being God fearin' christians & pray more for good heath rather than good fortune, the latter something you won't get in aviation !

Same thing (albeit more mildly) happened to me. Picked up a virus, kept on training through it and now have a slight rythm problem. Only happens with intense exercise now though so have all clear to keep flying from Cardiologist.
It certainly is disheartening when your body breaks down after all that hard work. After slightly more than 2 years with light exercise now i am just getting back into the hard yards and lose some of the weight i've put on in the interim.
best of luck to Lisa.

Good Luck Lisa. You will be fine.
Isn't it wierd that if you exercise too much you get heart problems, and if you don't exercise you get heart problems.
I for one intend to make my arteries as hard as I can. You never heard of someone dying of collapsed arteries have you? Also you are issued a finite number of heartbeats when you are born. I'm not wasting any of mine...

Also you are issued a finite number of heartbeats when you are born. I'm not wasting any of mine...
eg: RHR (resting heart rate) 48 bpm (beats per minute) over a 24 hour period = 69120 beats
RHR 70 bpm over 24 hours = 100800 beats.
This saves you 31680 beats every 24 hours or 11,531,520 beats per year. That's 11 million big ones saved. Potentially adding up to quite a few years of extra heart beats saved in the beat bank.
