MEMBERS of Geelong Aero Club often provoked Luke McWilliam with stories about his mother's sexual habits, a court heard yesterday.
But witness Brian Hawke said he only mentioned Mr McWilliam's mother once.
The jibe was captured on video before the dispute on July 1, 2007, by Mr McWilliam, who is accused of punching 61-year-old club member Leslie Tyack to the jaw.
The 39-year-old, of Barwon Heads Rd, Connewarre, has pleaded not guilty to a charge of unlawful assault.
Yesterday a contested hearing at Geelong Magistrates' Court heard Mr Hawke saw Mr McWilliam hit Mr Tyack.
After viewing the footage, Mr Hawke said the strike could not be seen because Mr McWilliam was ``a good editor''.
Alan Swanwick, for the accused, suggested Mr Hawke was too far away to see the incident.
``Your description of a physical assault is a lie delivered in conjunction between yourself and Mr Tyack,'' he said.
Mr Hawke denied the allegations, saying he saw the punch clearly from 130m away.
The hearing, before magistrate Duncan Reynolds, continues today.

Provocation.
Sadly provocation has been characteristic of the sour relationship between McWilliam and some Aero Club members. The resulting animosity certainly characterises encounters between McWilliam and some individuals.
The assault on Mr Tyack though can hardly be condoned. I hope that the facts will be made clear in court and that justice will prevail.
