huh....

The only place that could possibly offer HECS would be UNSW B. Aviation. I think (correct me if I'm wrong), you can only HECS the theory side of the program anyway.

I believe you are correct Mr.Tos.
HECS is only for the theory side of that and only for approved places such as a university. not 100% correct me if im wrong.

It would make learning to fly a lot cheaper though. I wouldnt hold me breath though

I've been told by a number of sources including the owners of a few schools at Bankstown that a HECS style scheme, not necessarily so named is being introduced to promote training of Australian citizens.

Can't say its a bad idea on the surface of it.

edit: Don't know if exclusive to YSBK, doubt it.

There's another thread in this forum mentioning that a "HECS style Theme" would be available to ALL training organisations, not just UNI courses. Julia Gillard has proposed this allegedly. Anyway, rumour at the moment. lets wait and see.

I have heard the rumours aswell and was told that the diploma of aviation WAS going under the HECS scheme. If not in the 2nd half of this year, early 2009.

I'm guessing the pilot shortage will soon become a massive surplus.

I stand to be corrected though!

Not rumours, real.

This legislation was drafted by the Howard Govt last year and was put into parliment prior to the changeover. It is still going through as it was supported by both sides, expect May but it depends on what else goes before the Senate before then.

It's called VET FEE-HELP, not HECS, and is aimed at any RTOs (Registered Training Orginasitions) that are running Diploma and above courses (can you say integrated CPL courses?).

It provides for UP TO $80,000 in funding to the institution to be paid back by the student once employeed and earning over $xx (I don't have those figures to hand but they're the same payback rates as HECS used to be and FEE-HELP is now).

I see a lot of 150hr CPL couses turning into $80,000 govt. financed propositions.

Personally, I think it's good. It's not a free ride, it's a manner in which a student can get a loan they would have had to work their balls off for in the past while also trying to complete their education.

N.b. While interest free, it is indexed to CPI.

Hey guys,

I am applying for a course which they stated that they were going to have HECS (of FEE-HELP) available sometime this year, but are waiting for the government to approve it.

The Training Insitution that I am applying for is Aerospace Aviation, I spoke to Jan Stone who is the Student Co-ordinator, she sent me this file and I hope this would be of use to others who are interested in this.

ACPET - Australian Council for Private Education and Training - vet help fee workshops in sydney round-off national series

Hope this information that I have helps.
