Jobs "in the top end"?

I am relative new to this forum, and to some of the terms used. I live in North Queensland and was wondering where people were talking about when they refer to jobs "in the top end", or to go "north"?

Is it North Queensland, or, the Northern Territory?

thanks

1a-tej.

Well, the "Top End" is the same "Top End" that the rest of Australia knows. "Up North" is the whole lot of northern australia, but often referring to the Kimberley, or the Torres Strait Islands.

1a, i note your location (cairns)- when i was in nsw they pointed north..cairns. then i got to cairns and they said "you need to go out west fella". so off i went west. There was noone there. went north again and ended up in darwin where they didnt specify a direction ...they just said "piss off"!

ha mate yeah i did - was a bloody great experience. I ended up going south again to get the first gig then back east, back west, west west east west east again. Something like that (not to mention all the flying and driving around for inetrviews endorsemenst and others!!).

I do remember the terrible feeling of having no money living out of a car, shaving at service stations and donning the slacks and shirt and sitting in the car with the resume trying to get the guts to go in and ask.

It worked in the end.

Times have changed a lot since then. Most guys that were in GA during that time can't believe what they're seeing now, myself included. Make the most of it.

Great advice, BUT, have a backup plan, as in make sure you have other options for an out if it don't work. Often the 'outback' where yr likely to find some of this seasonal work is no place for mum & the kids while yr out transporting our nations real founders (assuming that's the lvl of flying we are talking about here). As`long as this pending scenario is not all yr eggs in one basket then head nth young fella ! Hope you got a big car though mate !

1a-tej,

From mermory, geographically speaking 'The Topend' refers to a line north of Broome across to Cairns (maybe a little south of Cairns), but you are living in the Top End.

On the other hand 'Up North' refers to anything north of south

That's really good news! I will start to get to know the local operators. Thanks for the advice.

One question though!

Why are there more jobs up north than down south?

btw: I have about THREE back up plans all centered around this one. I don't want this plan to fail!

Aviation in the Top End is a product of the nation's caring and need to look after members of our nation.
Due to the large areas involved aviation is the best way to transport members of the nation and those who pay service to those members

There are talkers, and there are do-ers. Mr Hat is a do-er.

Why would you want a job at a service station?

North of the Brisbane Line?

Interesting! I heard about that from the oldies but I thought it was just a winge. Obviously not! It makes sense though. In the old days of warfare, the gutless mongrels stayed at the back out of harms way, while the real men were in the front line prepared for what ever was thrown at them. Sound like a "far northerner"!!! ha ha
