Jandakot aircraft hire

Hi all,
Can anyone reccommend any clubs for light single hire from Jandakot, Perth - preferably on the cheaper side. Can't seem to find a definitive list of clubs at the airport. Thanks...

Kind regards,
John

Try one of the mentioned companies, or jandakot flight centre (JFC) or Minovation. Thats about it out at Jandakot.

Based on my extremely limited experience at Jandakot, I can recommend Minovation. Not dirt cheap but reasonable, and the aircraft I hired were in good nick and appeared on inspection to be well maintained. RACWA looked to have some pretty exorbitant rates.

That was a few years ago - not sure what the general decline in GA around the country has done to the place since.

University Flying Club - Jandakot, Western Australia have an almost new 2011 PiperSport VH-EZT (it's parked on the northern apron near behind the run up bay (red and white low wing). Modern glass cockpit and they charge on airswitch time not tacho time (only place at Jandakot I know of who does this - so you only pay a fixed fee for all ground work before the flight). Easily the cheapest modern aircraft to hire at Jandakot.

I have heard that ACFT are getting a number of Aquila A210s at similar prices but on tacho time. These will be brand new from what I've heard. (update: they are now on VDO and are more expensive than the 172s at Curtin - bit strange for a 2 seater with a 20lph engine).

I also recommend Miniovation if you want to hire traditional aircraft like the warrior, archer, etc. They have great customer service and don't charge all the extra fees for keeping the plane overnight, etc.

Please elaborate on your remark -

'Their rates and customer service are terrible'...??

Que???

I would venture that the 'customer service' is as good as it gets anywhere.

As to the rates? At least RACWA offers many more amenties than some other organisations....nice club-house, excellent library, good briefing rooms and flight planning room / amenities etc

Under the 'new' management policies, it has improved from what it was a few years ago under a different management regime.

Que???

I hire all over the place and have mostly had good experiences with organisations in WA. The comment is based on my personal experiences with RACWA. I've found their front of house staff rude and unhelpful more often than not.

Back when I was training (racwa old management) I had had rushed down for a lesson after work on two occasions in a row only to find the instructor wasn't there. Someone screwed up the booking and didn't tell me or the instructor. No apology, no offer to go find another instructor or plane. I thought maybe it was a once off but when it happened again on my next lesson a week later that was the last time I ever trained there. To the instructors credit they called and apologised even though it wasn't their fault and said that it's a recurring problem.

That was years back so I've also tried again a couple of times recently for private hire hoping things had improved. After explaining I hadn't hired there in ages and didn't know the process they really made no effort to help or explain. One of the accounts girls was extremely rude and unfriendly when we were trying to pay for the flight.

On the flip-side I have good experiences in other areas. Amenities are good but not the best in my view there are others that are newer/nicer (you haven't pointed out they have the highest aero club membership rates around - 2.5x more than my next most expensive WA aero club membership - so you pay for the extras such as cafe, bar even if you never get to use it). Their information evenings are great (these happen once a month), I've always had good experiences with the maintenance guys, instructors were knowledgeable and friendly, their courses are pretty good (have attended various) these are also well priced in my view. And whenever I've phoned in with a question the guy who answers phone enquires has been pretty good.

So it's not all bad they do have some good points, however, overall I've personally had the worst experience overall with RACWA when compared to any of the other organisations and clubs I've interacted with in WA. Then when I also consider on top of that their membership rates are the most expensive I've seen by far and even when you are a member the hire rates aren't competitive compared to other aero clubs that's simply why I don't recommend them.

I recommend Minovation. Had similar 'unwelcoming' experience with RACWA.

I called RACWA just before Xmas to make a booking, and the guy I got on the phone was as rude as they get. It was like me ringing to make a booking was an inconvenience, I was told "can't you go online and do it" then I explained there was a problem online I got "never heard of that before" I almost told him to belt it. The time before that I was waiting for five minutes in line, and the chap behind the counter after serving the man infront of me, realizes his mate was behind me and called him to be served, luckily the lovely girl behind the counter noticed and came out of her way to serve me. Mind you I didn't have a white shirt/stripes/ ray ban combo on so proberly wasn't exclusive enough, its seems very clicky when you walk in, Apart from that great venue.

The best aircraft to hire is curtin flying club fleet, best aircraft, best rates and a great helpful club.

If you specifically want a Cessna 172 I'd say CFC have the best ones going around from what I've found so far. But I think the broad statement about 'best rates' is a bit misleading as it only applies solely to 4 seater 172s.

UFC and Thunderbird both have 'better rates' but they are two seaters (fine if you are training or don't need more pax). UFC has a 2011 PiperSport with glass cockpit (dual EFIS/EMS and large central GPS, VFR) @$170/hr airswitch. Thunderbird has two Diamond DA20s (steam guages, older style cockpit, garmin 430 small gps - VFR/NVFR) @$195 VDO.

Shineon, I assume you already have an Australian licence and a current ASIC or AVID? ....and also lots of money for the most expensive place in the western world to fly? (or for anything for that matter)
