Sunfish,
Do not feel bad, it gets better.
After having completed the process you speak of above, a week or two after submitting said application i received a phone call from a lovely and very helpful lady from the Merimbula Office for CASA ASIC cards.
She very politely and sheepishly asking if i could fax or email a copy of my pilots licence to them so they could confirm i am a pilot, so i said " Sure, CASA wants me to send a copy of my CASA issued flight crew licence to them ( CASA ) to confirm that i do infact hold a CASA issued flight crew licence ", it just amazes me the new and creative paperwork functions one is challenged with daily, safer skies indeed.

What I find really irritating, and somewhat depressing, is the knowlege that somewhere in Canberra lives a chairborne bureaucrat, salary probably in excess of $100K per annum who actually thought up this whole dog's breakfast!!
Our taxes at work!
How did the old saying go? ''To err is human. To really **** up takes a bureaucracy''

The correct saying, as I remember it from a LARGE poster on our computer room is; "To err is human, to really foul up requires a computer".
To add a bureaucracy to a computer you must,
(1) Really enjoy pain.
(2) Need the excercise you Will get chasing yourself.
By the way, I seem to remember reading somewhere CASA have stated that A.I.A do all their processing so I guess it's a fait accompli.

Headsup folks. AUSCHECK are asking issuing bodies for a forecast demand for processing background checks for the next four years. This is so they can "fix the price of our services over the next two years". This organisation has only been operating since September last year and overnight increased the cost of background checks from $49 to $86.

I've got my new ASIC yesterday. Everything was relatively smooth despite
one small disappointing fact - they sent it to the address I had two years
ago. The new address was properly given in the "on-line" application,
updated with CASA two years ago, and moreover was clearly printed
in my licence, a copy of which I attached to my application.
