Instructors Positions
Hi All
I would value input from those in the know, as to the state of the instructors market in Auz.
Here is the rub, At the age of 42, I have made the life changing decision to bid farewell to my country of birth, South Africa, and am looking at immigrating to Auz, as I unfortunatly see no future here anymore
I currently hold a SACAA Icao Commercial licence with I.F rating and multi engine rating, and am busy finishing off my instructors rating grade III which I will have in the next month or two.
Are there filght schools in Auz that are prepared to assist with the immigration and a job offer, to be quite clear, I am talking about going over as a career instructor, not hour building and moving on to an airline in a few years, so signing up with a school for the long haul is no problem.
Any input, thoughts, leads and advise will be most welcome.
Thanks All.

Mate unless you hold a Gr1 Instructor rating, the chances are very slim.At the moment most places require atleast a Gr2 rating even for the locals to get a gig.I know of a few Gr3 guys who couldn't find any work and had to go up north.I'd say gettin atleast a Gr2 would gve you more of a chance.FTA in adelaide are known to sponsor S.A's but those were few and far between. Now they seem to be stable and the recruitment drive has slowed alot.

Desperate Wannabe,
Look into FTA in Adelaide. They have recruited many South Africans over the years, most go into some management roles after one or two years with odd person moving to a major airline.
If it is true what you say about being a career instructor then your best bet would be FTA.
Good luck...

Gday,
Its a really good time to get into instructing whether you are a Grade I, II or III. I can't speak for every flying school around the country, however most of the major schools at Bankstown are screaming for instructors of all Grades, most now being employed on a full time basis.
The shortage has existed for a while, but has become most noticeable over the last 12 months. I remember over 18 months ago starting out as a junior grade 3 - I hung around, answered phones, taught theory and did what I could to get a couple of TIFs, or fill in for another instructor. It wasn't till 6 months down the track with about 100 hours of instructing I had offers from 3 busy flying schools
If I were starting over as an instructor I would look at either Flight Training Adelaide or Singapore Flying College. I haven't taught at either of these places, but speaking to people who have they seem like decent employers and most of their staff seem content.
Anyway there are plenty of schools, but you may find it is easier to get employment with one of these larger schools and that the smaller schools would usually want you to have your Grade 2.
Good luck - the industry needs more career instructors!
Cheers,
Mo

Are you looking to be sponsored or do you have non-aviation qualifications you can use to get residency?

hI Guys, thanks for all the info, I am soaking it up, unfortunately SB4200, I will have to go the sponsorship route, been in aviation all my life, and that is what I do best, and I see that bottom feeders, like flight instructors don't make the skills list
So at the moment, first priority is to find a school that is prepared to do the sponsorship thing for me, not sure how easy that is going to be
But if you guys have any leads.......
I have fired off a kazillion e-mails, to all the schools I could find, and the feedback so far has been encouraging, and Flight Training Adelaide have my CV as I type, really praying for the nod from them.
And to any of the flight schools reading this thread, I am in for the long haul, CAREER INSTRUCTOR, I won't let you down, give a bloke a break

Thanks for the heads up on that, I recieved a reply back from then anyway, saying sorry, I need to be a minimum of Grade II before they will look at me, so that rules that out anyhow.
Anybody have any info on Basair, in Brizzy, they seem like a good solid outfit from what I have been able to find.
Keep the info, and leads coming please, it is much appriciated.

I think you'll find Basair is in Sydney not Brissy.
If you want a gug at YBAF/YRED try AV8, RQAC or RAC - all are desperate for instructors and would have no issue taking a JG3. All seem like decent places to work.

Ouch
Echidnaaa
"since I have worked there and looking back it was not worth the stress for the hours you clock up"
Seems you are one sorry puppy young man, either you couldn't hack it or their standards were too high for you.
I believe from the other forums they have a student and instructor scholarship running with Cathay now - if it was so bad why would Cathay even bother. Brings me back to my point, you couldn't hack it or the standards were too high or maybe they asked you to leave. Please enlighten us.

If FTA aren't interested then try China Southern West Australian Flying College, Singapore Flying College, or theres a new one coming up in Ballarat which is rumored to actually pay a decent wage
If you're in it for the career as an instructor, stay away from aero clubs, try and target the ones with the more advanced training. E.g. there are some schools which own jets. Not many though. And no idea what they're like to work for.
