All "good fun"...

Did a couple of RPT runs yesterday.

At lunchtime the approach controller had 12 aircraft inbound, most between the Tiwis and Darwin. Most had to land on 36 due to crosswind. He did a pretty good job of things, though a couple of pilots flying at 3000' were a bit surprised to get "Climb 4000 for sequencing".

The afternoon RPT was pretty wild, and I was on the ILS when the tower announced gusts of up to 42knots!
Amazingly, there was a VFR Bonanza doing charters to the Tiwis in the afternoon.

All pretty calm now. The tropical low is now "EX-Cyclone Helen", but may re-form over the gulf in a day or two. Flying this arvo.

DIVOSH!

Tindal was the place to be

Coming into DN last night -- decided to drop into Tindal to get an update on things happening Darwin way. Was a stack of planes parked there, 1900's, Dash8's? (it was dark) all lined up nicely... Ended up arriving in DN around 6.30am or so - plane received a good wash enroute.

My understanding is that they arrived from Bali at 0130, which is the normal schedule.

I know I wasn't the PIC of QF846 (SYD-DN) last night, so please only see my comments as from my own opinon, but for the guy who was, you've got balls, .

When the TAF was forecasting winds of 35G65KT's, and the fact that Jetstar and Virgin Blue cancelled their Darwin flights, that would be enough for me to maybe say "Perhaps we'd best sit this one out"! Perhaps it was also a clear indication when the outgoing crew delayed it until this morning, .

Just my thoughts, I'll prepare for the grillings now.

There are trees still laying across streets around N'cliff
Real big bugger blocking the entrance to the Jape shopping centre and smaller ones tits up near new Bunnings which must mean a few good gusts at the strip.

Yeah that was an interesting day of flying... radar painting red for most of the day, all approaches to minima, not getting visual on a few... all good fun!
