Brindabella Airlines looking for instructors!

Anyone know what is happening out at Brindabella Airlines? Noticed they are looking for instructors! Grade 2 & 3

What are they like to work for? Is there much charter, flight instruction work happening out of Canberra to entice people to move there?

I don't know about charter drivers but they always seem to be looking for RPT drivers!

I wonder how much luck they are having finding drivers for their new Jet Stream aircraft?

Brindabella

Tintin,

They're a good outfit IMHO, but there isn't much charter to talk of. They have made a conscious choice to not try and compete with Corporate Air.

They've got a good bunch of instructors there, and the owner is a fellow of excellent character. The main issue is the money: it doesn't pay much and living in Canberra can be expensive. Also I think most of the training aircraft are a bit clapped out, but whose aren't these days..

How the heck can they justify putting out a Cirrus SR20 for $520 an hour dual?

There's places around putting SR20's and SR22's out for less than $400!!

"quote" living in Canberra can be expensive

Yes one of the main reasons for not moving to Canberra. You will never break even on what an instructor gets paid!

A real shame Brindabella seems like a good company to work for!

How much competition is there is Canberra? Answer: None.

Plus there are heaps of Defence Pilots with their tax payer funded credit cards who want to fly behind glass panels and as it is not coming out of their pocket, I guess they can get away with charging $520 per hour.

Have also heard good things about Brindy, but it would have to be the most expensive place to learn to fly in Australia I reckon (perhaps other than Townsville! Also no competition at Townsville.)

Cheers

Townsville GA operators

I know Townsville is an expensive place to live too but what are the few GA operators like up there in regards to working conditions and doing say an instructor rating or mult-engine command instrument rating?

Saw a recent article in the local rag - the Canberra Aero Club is lookig to start up again...bring it, and the resultant competition, on! May be a small problem with the rates charged by the airport owner, however...

Tintin - not having much luck getting an answer to that question, huh?

Maybe that says something!

Canberra Aero Club is still there, where? i guess i shouldn't be so lazy and go look for them.

Although i don't think their rates would or could be any lower due to the airport owners propensity to charge like the proverbial bull.

G'day all,

Just moved to CB and had a chat with Brindy... Seems to be a company on the move. Was speaking to one of the ex Instructors there who has just moved across the RPT side of things, first job as an Instructor, 2nd job right hand seat of a Metro, to top it off hasnt changed companies, you have got to be happy with that!...

I'm an older bloke that started flying late in life, however, have got myself in a position now where I could live on 32k a year, (wife picks up the rest) have almost finished my Instructor rating and am keen to have a chat with them when done, seems to be the general progression for Instructors to move up within the company. ( I think Jeff said four Instructors have now gone to the airline )

Of course need to chat to the wife as she has she's not aware of "our" plans yet!

If only I was twenty years younger.

I see in previous threads there were comments about the cost of A/C... the boss didnt come out and say it, but i get the distinct impression the aiport owner dosnt make life easy for him!

I've heard of an SR20 with full glass going for around $260/hr dual. I guess it's all about supply and demand. And landing fees

In my humble experience with Brindabella Airlines, they weren't all that flash to work for.
Was told during the interview full time 45 hours a week, so moved down to CBR. First week was told only getting paid for the hours I fly and I'd have to teach a PPL Theory course, all the preparation time was expected to be gratis. Went back through the old student file and started to get regular students back again and was just scraping by. Last straw was checking the bookings on the afternoon previous and finding I had three flights booked. Came in next morning to discover the OWNER, had moved all of my students to the full time instructors. Not even a phone call, so promptly left
Bit of a slap in the face, and I have since found out that I was not the only one. Stupidly didn't ask to see a contract
I find it no wonder they are having trouble finding instructors. As a side note, there is A LOT of carrot dangling in the organisation ie Keep your nose clean and they're might be an FO slot for you...
