Mate they are a great company to work for. They probably have one of the hardest CPL programmes for any student around Australia so you need to know the procedures quite well. You will start on the grobs in phase 1 if you are a junior grade 3 and will just be doing ab-initio till you have about 2-3 hundred ab hours or if they have room out in Merreddin (about 3 hours east of perth). There you will start in phase 2&3 where you will basically do some more ab and nav work. Once there is an opening and depending on seniority you will then move on to nights where you will just be teaching night circuits. They do not do any night navs except in IFR.

From there once you have your gr1, MECIR and 50 hours multi you can get into phase 4 where you will teach MECIR and multi endorsements. However you will have to wait till there ios an opening and it is also based on seniority. You will be bonded there for 12 months. These days there is so much movement that they are finding it hard to keep guys in there for 12 months or longer. Hence there is great opportunities for you to progress to phase 4 within about 16-18 months.

One of my mates was at China Southern for about 2 years and is now an FO at Skippers and waiting to hear from Qantas. Many have gone to Rex, coastal surveillance and others have gone to twin charter jobs.

There is no shortage of flying. They expect you to do at least 60 hours per month. They do work you to the bone and the students can vary significantly in english, discipline and knowledge. You get some students that are an absolute dream to teach, but the majority are ****e.

All said and done it is a great place to start smashing some hours through and for career progression.

Not a bad place

On the above reply he is correct in most areas. Progression is good if you have the money to pay for the twin time. I few guys have been shafted recently trying to get into phase 4 so have gone else where into charter jobs.

They are hungry for instructors at the moment so send a CV, the money is pretty good you do alot of hours and there is a good group of guys to work with.

So they desperately want instructors! Any idea of what their interview process is like?

I am guessing they still have high standards and won’t just employ anyone that has an instructor rating?

They are constanly looking for Instructors. Yeah, you have be to Standard and pass the Instructor Standardisation to be offered a job.

Insight on the interview, read about the company (CSWAFC and CSA), read about Merredin town maybe You'll be asked about your long term career goals etc... Have you had experience teaching ethnic students? those sort of stuff.

CSWAFC is definetely a good place to start off you Instructor/flying career.

I am new to the world of applying for instructor jobs would this test be similar to doing an initial instructor rating test by giving a mass briefing followed by an mock instructing flight & test of your aircraft knowledge?

Standards are still pretty high but if you cant past the first flight which is a check ride with the phase manager which is just to see if you can fly and patter at the same time but people do fail this flight.

Interview pretty easy just abe prepared inregard to your knowladge of the company.

good luck with you future employment we might see you here

They won't get you to do a mass brief. All up 7 flights. Check ride to see if you can fly and talk at the same time (steepies, s&l etc, pretty short flight if you can fly ok), 5 instructional flights, check ride with CFI which if it's good he will offer you a job after. Speak to the ops mgr Peter Nottle and he will send you out info to read.

Singapore www.sfcpl.com and the royal aero club and others are also looking for instructors so if you don't get in there are other options. They both pay award salary too.

Good luck
