Fast Single in Melbourne
Hi All,
I'm looking for a fast single to take away for the weekend in late october. I'm in Melbourne so somewhere close by would be good (Essendon closest) Looking at taking it up to the mid north of South Australia. PM me if need be.
Cheers

Tag,
You gotta get an A36. Try Peter Bini at Moorabbin or Lilydale Flying School. You might also get hold of a Saratoga from GFS at Moorabbin. I'm not really sure what's on hand at EN. No matter what you want, most hirers will have minimum requirements for hiring fast singles. Too many have been smeared across the landscape by people who have let them get away.

There are all sorts of strips in the "Mid North" of South Australia. Exactly where are you going? Whats the strip length and is it tarmac or gravel?
Some owners don't want their pride and joy to get gravel rash - especially the prop.

Hey, I remember watching some VB drivers at a CTAF near Melbourne flaring Cessna 172s 20 feet off the runway because it had been so long since they'd done it! Currency on type does count for something.

Tixylicks, Commander 114 CSH is at RVAC, not yet tried it miself but done the engineeering paper.
Tagneah, there are Cirrii at RVAC and, I think, at Tooradin. Also Lance WHG at RVAC.

Pt.Pirie - all sealed
try again - Pt.Pirie is not all sealed.
There recently and "had" to use the gravel as we had > 30kts of X-wind on the black top.
be safe up there

Pt.Pirie - all sealed runways...??
just replying to an earlier post by "training wheels" and many owners reluctance to let their toys out of their sight due to demonstrated "lack of airmanship" skills/abilities by some aircraft renters.

With your experience, I'd go the A36 with Mark Howe at Blue Demon at YMMB. Pirie is easy enough and there is swipe card fuel. Its getting close to the range of the A36, but comfortably inside charter reserve. The Spencer Gulf heavily influences wind and the bitumen strip will be aligned with the predominant wind. The descent over the Flinders Ranges (I usually go a bit further North to YPAG) is one of my favorite. The big decision will be whether or not to divert North for a look at Wilpena pound on the way home.
