Jet Jobs in NZ for 2008?

I’m keen to hear people’s predictions on the number of jet jobs in New Zealand next year.
I have heard that Air NZ want 100 guys and girls, and between Jetconnect and PB another 100.
What do you think??

More 73's for Pac Blue?

I had heard that PB will be getting another couple of 738's when they kick off NZ domestic in November. Can anyone shed some light on that one?

yeah airnz may want 100 pilots per year, but lets be realistic - they will interview 100 and hire a percentage of that. anyway how the heck would they train that many per year?

Air NZ are still at around 3000hrs to get a look in vs QF 500 hrs. That about says it all. Frustrating!

With AirNZ only having three more widebodies by 2013 and with recent relaxation of retirement age, why would they need 100 pilots per year?

With the PB domestic operation starting I hear they're only going to need another 25 odd pilots for the 2 extra aircraft. They intend to make much higher use out of existing crew. i.e. Getting in from an international at night and working domestic the next day. Don't let them screw you boys and girls-screw them back harder!

PB to increase crew by 30%. Much of that said to be underway.
Increased hours with mix of Dom\Int ops (Airslasher)!? A good opportunity for their dodgy contract\PAYE issues to get sorted, in the wash-up before Dom Ops I would have thought, otherwise more probably leaving, for decent pay elsewhere. Much opportunity!
ANZ continued steady ontake as they try to lower there payroll "liability" with lower paid new recruits and give leave without pay until 787s come... (I hear also )

Yeh, Cpt Hog, nice sum up.
It's all very simple and a matter of dollars and cents eh!?
I hear PB are still to lose more crew this month again (and senior).
...wonder when the message sinks in there.

Perhaps when you are able to walk into a jet job with a shiny new commercial you will be happy.

Things have never been better. Jobs every where. In years past we would chip in for the Australian Friday edition to check out the aviation job section. There may have been one or two or even none! Last week there was four pages!! Ranging from Instructors to 787 Captains and all the stuff in between.

If you think it is frustrating now you need to slow down and smell the Avgas. Try 10 plus years in a piston with no glimmer of hope in the industry, just some blind faith that one day things will happen. Those who make it are just too dumb to know when to quit....

Well said Iceblock.
Passage through the levels of this industry have to be earned... it's not an automatic right, although many "sprogs" around now believe so and sell there souls to get on a "twin bunson-burner"...

Yes, times haven't been better, so stop your whimpering and uphold some Terms and Conditions of this profession

Who said I haven't earned it, I have been slugging away for 10 years like a lot of guys. If you call that selling your soul get over yourself. Never assume.

The point I am making is comparing apples with apples Air NZ has a high requirement to be a s/o for 8 years. However it is all supply and demand dictating this so no point moaning.

The frustrating part is... here is a pilot with over 2500tt that wants to make a career at his national airline and most likely won't as opportunities with QF, JQ and the like will result in a subsequent step back when I hit the magical 3-4000 hrs.

I will take my opportunity now as I am sure you are aware you take your chance when it presents itself in aviation and the industry has never been so open.

Make sense now!

Sorry Iceblock, it was a general comment not designed to attack you personally.
