Aircrew Numbers for Jetstar/Qantas

Aircrew Numbers for Jetstar/Qantas
ny ideas as to the numbers of pilots that should be recruited for Jetstar and Qantas in the next 5 years.
I''m 40 years old, in the next few months should get my first turbine gig with about 3000 hrs total.
The question is, have i missed the boat for both Qantas and Jetstar.

Nunc est bibendum
I don't reckon you've missed with QF. Requirements from a couple of months back were 300+ S/Os within the next three years. There will be additional numbers required beyond that to meet the requirements for the introduction of the 787.

J* won't be needing as many pilots now after they announced today that they will be ditching the Melbourne-Honolulu route, however they are about to kick off a Melbourne - Athens route. Makes sense given that Melbourne houses the largest Greek population outside Athens. Wonder where they will stop over...?

If the report on another thread was correct (re: dumping ML-Honolulu) then Anthens is not until "late next year" so 1+ years away, much can happen and many corperate strategies revised in that time so I'll believe it when I see it.
Personally can see the "creative accounting" used, and the level of support provided by Qantas being
"blurred" as allowing figures that will point to the success of pornstar domestic (at least in the eyes of GD and AJ) therefore the continuation/expansion.
Longhaul an entirely different position, the point at which fares Vs crap service turns punters back to full service carriers has not yet been found and the reality of "lean and mean" is that when things go bad the ability to recover is limited and you WILL get bad press which won't exactly encourage or inspire confidence in the punters.
Who knows - the point could be reached where what GD says the punters MUST accept and what the punters DO accept forces major rethinking about the viability of longhaul!!
Like to see GD's positive spin if THAT happens.

So if services increase out of Sydney........ why wont they need as many pilots?
Let me think... 9 A320 to come, talk of 6 A321's, 50 aircraft order for the entire brand........
Have your fill boys and girls....

BULA, it depends on what slots are available in Sydney for the expansion plans...but yes being a major hub there may be more positions and also the flow-on affect re A330/B787 upgrades/movements in the future.

I have just had the call from QF, start in 5 weeks
12 SO's a month for the next while and it doesnt look like stopping.
I know a guy who is 38 who has been thru the sim and intereview process and is awaiting the call.
Good luck you might just be right
how long can they recruit 12 a month before GA comes to a standstill?

Don't know about the next five years. But...
Jetstar just allocated 24 Commands last month and a mate just said another 20 commands advertised by FSO recently.
Draw your own conclusions.

Time between Letter of Intent to Employ and Final Start date
Hi FighterDown
Was just wondering how long you had to wait between receiving their Letter of Intent to Employ and Final Start date? How long did stages 5 and 6, checking of references and security check, take in other words?
Would be nice to know.......
