457 visa's for pilots

457 visa's for pilots
A little birdy told me of a special mission/national carrier who is going to Canada with the offer of 457 visa's and a hand at getting residency for pilots.
My questions are, is GA that short of experienced pilots that this sort of action is required? How can there not be young pilots with the relevant quals and why isn't some sort of national program in place to train/retain pilots? Why aren't terms and conditions raised to make these sorts of jobs more attractive in the long term? How long before the airlines start this caper and why is it I heard an Aussie pilot on an emirates flight the other day when there's jobs a plenty here?

'tis indeed. Gotta say though, from the way that some of the pilots from a new kid on the local block carry on, I'm not surprised they are having trouble finding the right feedstock for their cockpits. Hi ho giddi up Silver.
There are some really terrific kids around but geez it's hard work sorting em out from the chaff. Maybe I'm getting old and crusty but they all seem to have the right technical quals, but too many seem to have missed out on the really important bits, the rest. I guess it is really me.
The thought just occurred to me, why dont they forget about the 457 visa, which is a bit on the nose right now and hire the Silver Bodgie to go bring em in as brickies and carpenters, he was, if I recall, a dab hand at it not so long ago.

Met up with an old mate he was telling me he is going back to work (in his 60's)
We agreed when we were in our prime no one wanted us, we were 20 years to late.
Now we is 20 years too early so it seems.
We agreed there were some bloody wet behind the ears Captains flying regionals 10 years ago ,what on earth is out there now ? And in the future?

Pilots are not on the Immigration skills shortage list for the 457 Visa. Not saying it won't happen but I would be very surprised if it did, especially if the pilots are to be based in a capital city.

Mr. Torres, Not based in a capital city and I can assure you it is being attempted. It'll be interesting if they are going to find anyone but time will tell.

This company wouldn't happen to do SURVEILLANCE in AUSTRALIA.........now would it.
They are offering a $15k payment for "relocation" to Australia.
Pay is said to be $63k training then $83k when checked to line.
They would probably hang onto a few more guys if they gave a bonus/salary increase rather than spend the same amount paying for someone to come over here. Interviews held in Ontario.

I suspect aviation will go the way other industries are going. That is: employers go overseas to find cheaper labour and qualified aussies go overseas to find better renumeration.
All because companies here are not willing to pay the cash. Simple.

If they do go to Canada, I think they will have success, apparently conditions there even more crap than here.

Rubbish. The only reason Surveillance Australia will be allowed to sponsor foreign pilot from a sellect few Commonwealth countries is because of national security. This company plays a vital role in securing our boarders and the government will make sure this is done.

Firstly three doesn’t constitute plenty.
I have just checked with the Department of Immigration and Citizenship and the profession of “Pilot” is still on the exclusion list so unless:
1. It is a specialist job requiring specialist qualifications of which few in this country are qualified to do, or
2. The lack of candidates would mean Australia’s national security would be compromised, or
3. The job is in a remote location and no Australians are prepared to go there, or
4. They have right of abode because of birth, marriage or previous residency visa, or
5. They are advertising for people with bare CPL’s and they still can’t get the applicants, then
D.I.A.C will not issue a visa. Period. And that is straight from the horse’s mouth.

My contacts are a little higher than departmental level. There has been no ministerial directive to D.I.A.C to waver the visa rulers regarding pilots. He is the one that decides who comes into this country or not. It would be a very brave government to change the visa rules regarding pilots just after the recent doctors fiasco. If S.A recruit these guys, how the hell will they get through the security screeing that CW requires? When I did it you had to have a history that they could trace in this country for 20 years ( I think) and I saw many blokes get ejected for absolute rubbish reasons.
Don't tell me that the govt would consider lowering their security standards just to help out a company with its employment problems? (Tongue firmly in cheek!)
