GA NVFR Jabs for training

Was interested to see this when browsing. There's a new NVFR Jab on the market and a mob in WA has 3 of them already. Will be interesting to see how they go... the J230-D

http://www.jabiru.net.au/J230DbodyFrame-1.htm

VH-FTE, FTD & FTK. Fast Track Pilot Training.

I'm wondering how they are compliant for NVFR? For NVFR you need either a TSO'ed GPS, VOR or ADF etc, but they have fitted a non TSO'ed Avmap GPS. The primary NAV/COM looks to be the Garmin unit that looks to be the equivalent of an SL40 Nav Com, however to display the VOR it must be coupled to the Dynon EFIS I suspect for the VOR display, however the Dynon unit isn't TSO'ed for IFR so therefore it can't be used for night. In the Cirrus the Garmin 430's are TSO'ed but the Avidyne isn't so a warning is provided to show that the display unit isn't to be used as a primary navigation device.

Unless I've missed something and ASTM 2245-06 means something that I am not aware of. I also didn't realise that LSA allowed for NVFR in the first place either.

Yes! They wind up the lacker band that drives the match-stick prop out front.

My recollection is that NVFR does not require navaids to be TSO'd for IFR - its classified as a visual flight procedure not an instrument flight procedure.

I also thought all radio gear for NVFR must be TSO'ed and so too the GPS if used for Primary Navigation? They could have fitted a certified GPS say a GNS250 or whatever the base certified model is these days, however the base ones are all out of production and the closest is like a 300/400 series and a heck of a lot more expensive. A certified GPS would have done the trick, however wouldn't give the student experience on VOR's in practice and theory, so if they wanted they could still use the non tso'ed Avmap anyway as long as it's not a primary source of nav.
Someone has kindly posted a summary here http://www.saaa.com/home.php?contentpage=nvfr Will have to find the reg for this, am interested.
