rfdswa

Have been told by a friend of mine that works for this company that there is going to be court action taken by the pilot group, if management do not raise the pilots base pay.It seems that the company is in breach of current EBA,they have had meeting with the pilot group, and was told that the group would run to the EBA as planned if there was good pay rise, apparently this is not going to be the case.
RFDSWA have just introduced fly in fly out nurses at one of the bases and the nurse only works 6 months and their pay is higher than the base wage for a new guy to start.
Also rumours are saying that there are up to 9 pilots looking for other positions as they are not happy with the conditions they have to work. Not a happy camp over in the west at the moment

Havent been told on what base they start from. I dont know of how many bases they have or where they are situated. My source in formed me yesterday that he is going to pull the pin as getting tired and frustrated to arrive back at where he works from way pass sign off hour.
Apparently a meeting is planned for this month to be informed on the new conditions but as I said before, the group have heard that is not as high as what the want, they are going to tell management, they will go to court over it.
Has this ever happen before???????

The RFDS gig used to be the top of the tree in GA, now it is a stepping branch. These guys WILL walk to Network, Skywest, Skippers...hey Mon-Fri mostly and no late, late flights. Supply and demand yay.

Icarus2001, hopefully you're only talking about Western Ops and possibly even South East and Central Sections, because QLD Section is the other end of the spectrum.

I have a couple of mates who work in the QLD Section, and they have nothing but good to say about it. You're treated well, paid well, and have nothing but support from the top end of the chain. It's still one of the best jobs around.

"You treat staff like crap they leave and you wonder why".
I am sure that Western ops managment will one day wake up from the dream that they are in and see whats happening to their operation.

Maybe so, it will only be a 50% pay cut to fly for 2 of those 3..............

Maybe RFDS guys don't won't to fly for an airline, ever considered that?

Maybe they don't. Sounds like their employer is trying its' best to force their hand tho' doesn't it.
Corporatisation of RFDS was an inevitable if regrettable event..

an EBA may be for a fixed term, e.g 3 years but if you agree make damn sure it is what you want.
The kicker is if it is what you want and the company doesn't play nice you need to jump down their collective orifices to get what was agreed on.

I believe western ops has been bleeding for some time now. The shame is the management still seem to have no idea why.

Why would you want to fly for the RFDS out of Meeka when you could just a easy get a gig with Network or Skippers in Perth, or any other regional style of operation in any other major Capital city?

In the current climate if you just hold out, surly DJ and J* are a better option, even their entry requirements are lower.

Because not everyone wants to fly for an airline.

I couldn't think of anything more boring than sitting on a flight deck doing the same repetitous stuff over and over, for more than 3hrs! Especially when you've got a boss like Geoff Dixon.

Airlines aren't the be all and end all of aviation.

Meeka for a few years and ok bucks V's The big smoke and better than ok bucks. Not to mention someone to bring me a hot meal and a coffee. Call me simplistic, but that sounds like an easy choice to me. Dixon doesn't own every airline in the world either.

From what i have been told, it not about the location of the bases but, the Award that they get paid is based on a GA award. The guys at the service feel that their wok is not GA work, call outs in the middle of the night, getting home way past your intented finish time.
From what have been told is that the nurses on $95000+ the doctors on more than $250.000 and yet a pilot starts at $59,000.
The new nurse thing of fly i and fly out for 4 weeks on and 4 weeks off has them start at $68,000 with car and leave for 4 weeks.
Company has stated that they will up the pay, had a meeting with all bases and all the guys told the management, that it better be a good raise of the base figure, all the guys told what the wanted. have heard that this figure will only be half of what they wanted, as there is still a court case pending, I think the pilot will group will take there chances in court, something management dont want.

Sounds a lot like "on demand charter" to me. that is certainly the realm of GA.
$59K is at the very high end of a charter pilot doing the same sort of flying.
The Nurses and Doctors get paid whatever it is they get paid, and it is irrelevant to what the pilot gets paid. You cart a +$100K Fitter to a minesite at three in the morning in a kingair, do you expect a payrise?

Name ONE charter operator that will send you out in the middle of the night to land on a 900m dirt strip lit only by 6 kero cans..

Hardly GA

The RFDS pilots are asked to do some of the most challanging flying in the world. They deserve every cent they get.

Nevermind if you can't name any Wiz........I'm sure you can name some that have landed on roads or used car headlights for strip lighting!!
