Society is to blame!

My Sydney Airport issued ASIC expires end of Jul07.

Spoke to CASA and asked for a renewal and was advised I would need to go through the full process and pay FULL PRICE ($180). Process would take up to six weeks, and if they did not delivery the card in time then it would be my responsibility to obtain Aerodrome Operator approval and a temporary pass from every aerodrome that I landed. MORONS

Spoke to Sydney Airport and asked for a renewal and advised process is being held up by Federal Police (in negotiations to reduce three week check down to threee days). Once FedPol have committed to the improved service then Sydney Airport will send out reminder, and turn around in under two weeks. RENEWAL PRICE will be less than CASA(about $150), and you can use the expired pass at Sydney Airport until new card arrives.

Casa charged $135....I think

I believe if you are a member of RAA its as low as $95 and some other organisations, but I guess thats about the base cost.

We need a better renewal process.......in fact do we need it at all?

Recognition of other security qualifications.

And how come ASICs are only valid for 2 years? I work for a federal govt organisation and am required to hold a "Secret" level security clearance that is valid for 3 years. It would also be nice to be able to use that clearance to cut through alot of red tape to get the ASIC. ie just send in proof of the govt req'd one and bingo ASIC is yours.

Maybe its too much to ask govt depts to talk to each other that much, but in some instances they definitly do (like Centrelink and ATO).

Remember, Big brother is watching you .
(But only when he wants too).

A good news story for a change.

Just received my new ASIC from CASA, TWO WEEKS from the day I sent in the application, that's right, TWO WEEKS! My first ASIC took six months!

I found the application form pretty straight forward and have access to a lawyer at work so getting the documents verified was no problem. I also took my own photo with a digital camera, sized it correctly on Photoshop and then printed it out at home on my printer (on high quality photo paper of course) which saved me the cost of passport photos.

To top it off, the company I work for covered the cost!
