TSR 2 with Oz roundel
Has anyone else noticed the Ads. on Foxtel Ch. 608, for the show about the Cold War fighters, bombers and missiles etc, that includes an aerial shot of a TSR 2, with the Oz. Kangaroo Roundel, just below and aft of the cockpit.
I have never scene this before and although the Brits were trying to interest the RAAF in the type initially, to help pay for it, I was unaware of the 'Roo, roundel.
Anyone care to enlighten me and or all of us.
Cheers,
And Apinun,

I am sure we are right on the initial order propects for the TSR2 and the subsequent change to the F111, but I, from memory cannot recall ever seeing any motion or still shots of a TSR2 with the Oz Logo before these promo's on fox 608.
Cheers

Also, from memory, there was only 1, possibly 2 TSR2's that were ever built.
The 2nd one, I cannot confirm.
But I think only 1 flew.
Enlightenment again , please.

Sorry mate, I can't remember - oldtimers disease has the better of me!
I have seen at least one TSR2 at an air museum in the UK - Duxford?
There is plenty on the web about the TSR2.
"Two finished but unflown aircraft eventually survived, though with substantial internal damage inflicted; XR220 at the RAF Museum, Cosford near Wolverhampton, and XR222 at the Imperial War Museum, Duxford. A number of unfinished airframes were hastily scrapped, with very few parts retained intact. The only airframe ever to fly, XR219, was taken to Shoeburyness along with two unfinished frames (XR221 and XR223) and used for as a target to test the vulnerability of a modern airframe and systems to gunfire.[2] The haste with which the project was scrapped has been the source of much argument and bitterness since."

Didn't the RAAF originally order the TSR2, and when it folded changed to the F111?
Guys,
The TSR 2 was a magnificent aircraft more than 20 years ahead of its time. Even to this day the only tactical long-range strike aircraft that came close to its range and performance was indeed the
F-111 which chose different engineering solutions such as the swing wing, in order to solve the problems of high speed low-level strike used for penetration of enemy air defences.
The British solution as it turns out, was far less trouble than the swing wing solution.
The mounting cost of the program and a change of government at the time who saw it as a monumental waste of money in an age when they thought missiles would be the wave of the future and there would be very little need for manned aircraft. The shortsighted and ill informed politicians once again at hand to screw over the country they are supposed to be serving.
To my knowledge the RAAF never ordered the aircraft as the project was cancelled before they could do so and we along with the British were then caught up with buying into the F111 program. The RAF was to order the F111 K which in fact was never delivered, and as a result all the effort and hard work put in by BAC in developing this magnificent aircraft was to all intents and purposes wasted, along with hundreds of millions of pounds in development costs.
For detailed information I suggest you read the following excellent article, written by my good friend Dr Carlo Kopp—

TSR2 Roo roundels
I thank you all for your VERY informative responses, however again, tonight, on fox History 608, the TSR2 was again shown in the promo for the up and coming show about the Cold War, bombers, fighters, and missiles. It appears towards the end of the promo.
Please, why the Ronnie RAAF Roo, I've never seen it before on the, YES, an aircraft way ahead of it's time. Shame, Shame.
Cheers,
robroy
