Qantas B707 "City of Canberra" VH-X(E)BA arrives in YLRE
Qantas B707 "City of Canberra" VH-X(E)BA arrived in YLRE on Sunday morning (10 July 2007). Thought those who were unable to be at the welcoming might enjoy some photos.
A number of Ppruners were there! Had a few rums in the Oasis bar with:
Beachking, J430, ForkTail Dr Killer , Squawk6969, Rat**** , Yasser
BC
Is it just me or does the right outboard flap look a bit "wonky" here
I even managed to get this rare photo of the Dr (FTDK) disappearing into the distance on his folding lecky bike!

That was really quite some party. Not sure exactly how many of us were there......it got a bit out of hand, and the TV presenter Jeff Watson and his camera man David Telfor arrived and joined in......and that was so damned funny .
And that Yasser Crackmeup is one crazy basrd too........
When J430 gets back from his travels later in the week I hope he can post some video on the web for eveyone to enjoy! (If you get the hint J).
Was a great weekend all round.

707 at YLRE vs Old Station fly-in.
You're right, can't be everywhere at once. I couldn't make my mind up between the trip to YLRE and the 15th Old Station fly in. Old station won out in the end, 'cause I figgured I can fly out to see the 707 anytime ...
But it would have been nice if they weren't on the same weekend.
Old Station was good - I'd say one of the better ones they've had there. Nice sharp show. The only thing that was a little drawn out was the Capricorn Helicopter Rescue Service winch rescue demo, but seeing as the weekend was a fundraiser for them we'll cut them some slack.
Mig 15 was good, Barry Hempel in the Yak 52 was good. Kim RS in his Trojan was suitably noisy. The Pilatus glider was impressive. Roulette's were impeccable as usual. My 4 year old daughter (who is plane crazy and a helicopter fanatic) reckoned the smoke heart by the Roulettes was just for her.
I only saw 2 instances of richard craniums there;
One was the departure of the Shrike after the show (there was no need to commence the left turn at 50ft AGL over several hundred parked aircraft.)
And the Jabiru pilot who flew directly into the departing traffic on the extended runway centre line of RWY 24.
Other than that it was great! I'd recommend it to anyone that hasn't been yet. It's always on the Queens Birthday weekend at Old Station, near Raglan, (approx.) halfway between Gladstone and Rockhampton.
