FTA
IMHO, FTA was one of the better places to train and, and then work at, alongside RQAC and Sunland.
Since I have left for greener pastures, I am not able to offer any constructive advice on any of the operators at YBAF, so would suggest that, if you have not already done so, talk to each organisation, possibly talk to the refueller and make your choice!
Best of luck........................

Flight Training in Brisbane
Does anyone have an opinion on FTA at Archerfield , what are the instructors like and is it value for money?
On the other hand, dont just restrict yourself to YBAF .. there are plenty of other operators elsewhere who can offer just as good or better training solutions/packages. If you were to train @ YRED, you would be free of the bull$hit ASA landing fees that are incurred for every fullstop landing at YBAF, plus hefty delays due traffic.
Redcliffe Aero Club offers a professional approach to Flight Training, offers very competitive rates per hour and there are no landing fees whatsoever, nor are there lengthy delays in getting airborne. Simply preflight, startup, taxi and you are away ...
If you are prepared to go a little further for your training you would end up saving quite a substantial amount of money. RAC come highly recommended

Definataley the best at YBAF is RQAC it is better than FTA imho. Not saying that FTA is bad just that the aero club is better - more personal i feel and cheaper!
Good luck
Good luck
Hey Caveat,
I have heard mixed reports about FTA, some good some bad, as with most flying schools. There is quite a bit of info about FTA and YBAF flying schools on the Prune if you do a search. I will second the opinions earlier about YRED, no ldg fees, lower costs per hour last time I checked and a professional yet friendly atmosphere. They are just in the process of appointing a new CFI/CP.
Cheers

I would personally steer well clear from FTA. Another sausage factory and Humphrey was as eccentric as Major from Fawlty Towers in the very short time I was there to get a tailwheel endo.
I highly recommend the Redcliffe Aero Club Have done a few IFR renewals through them and the treatment from them is first class like it should be when you are forking over the $$$$. You really can't go wrong with them.
Anyway best of luck wherever you go.

YRED Good
I'll also recommend YRED. I have been flying there since January this year. The instructors are friendly and professional, aircraft are in good shape, and the airport and airspace are easy to work around.
You can do anything from PPL to MECIR. The have a Citabria coming online any day so you can also do tailwheel and aero if you like.
Just a nice laid back atmosphere.

go to YRED or RQAC, the cfi at FTA is a grump, tolerating the flamboyance of the recently graduated grade 3's. is like and the rest are only there because of the classic case " those who cant . teach!)
and then there is the monthly balls up of your account.
need i say anymore.
BUT .... on the plus side , the aircraft are well maintained.

I did my PPL at Redcliffe Aero Club a couple of years ago. No hassles, good atmosphere,happy/friendly staff and 2 near new C172s to blast around in. It is a bit of a drive from the southside but there's no harm in checking it out.
