Hey TP. Long time no see. Its alot easier now then it was then. And as you probably well know your old mate Stephen is long gone. Those stories are fewer and futher between but there are still a few that will screw you over for a five bucks. Multi time on the east coast is pretty good now. Probably NQLD best bet. Progression after that is pretty quick. Hit the books and be ready for the regional jobs pretty quick because if you don't have your 500mc yet you will soon.
Good luck.

Getting back in the saddle
Hi T.P. great to hear from you. The only thing that probably hasn't changed, in your absence, are salaries.
Mid sized operators, more than ever, will expect you to finance your own endorsement, but with falling pay scales.
Check out the training wages. The supply and demand principle seems to evaporate with altitude.
On a positive note, the seat you aspire to is now easier to climb into.
With house prices doubled during your break, living on less than $45k in Sydney is tough.
I would never encourage anyone either way, just look into the hype before you jump back in.
Good luck with your decision, and may you receive some sound advice from the pruners.

Firstly, I guess you have to ask yourself why you got out in the first place. Was it the money, the lifestyle, the passion had gone, crappy boss?
You have to find that reason first before moving forward, because despite the state of the industry at present and there being an increase in demand for pilots, the reason why you left may not have changed.
I guess if you have the passion still, great, but what sort of life style are you looking for, how much money do you need for the level of lifestyle you want.
There maybe more jobs, but the new world economy seems to pay less. Yes, I know someone is going to say, but I get this paid this much and I am happy. Reality is that aviation salaries are lower in general these days.
Good luck, and all the best whichever way you go.

I have been in the game since 93 and honestly 6 years ago was about the best ever time? Did you leave bacause of some other reason? Either way no, you can get in the game if you want to, if you have the drive you will make it, its that simple, and no you dont have to accept crap pay or pay for endorsements cough! like most people say you do here, it depends on what you target! Go for it but only if you want it!

Its a tougher call than what most would say. Its always tough to get to the regionals or the majors, & isn't cheap either. It does take money to kick off & also costs more to secure a good job these days. As AllInGoodTime said you must ask this question. I'm predicting it was low wages & future progression looking bleak. I've always said that anyone could end up on at least a metro or king air. Further than that its up to the individual & their competitiveness. Good thing now is its not who you know. 15 yrs ago when I started some places wouldn't look at you unless someone went in to bat for you. Not these days... good luck

Do it if you really want to. First ask yourself if you are going to have any regrets down the road if you don't do it.
This is what I did as I was in a similar situation. I "retired" from GA 4 yrs ago due to family reasons coupled with a dikhead boss I had at the time. Had about half the hours you have. Got myself a desk job and made good $$$, great conditions and perks.
However I kept thinking of those blue skies so decided to break out of the comfort zone and go back into GA 5 months ago. First job getting back into GA was on a Navajo! Now, I am heading into my next job with an RPT mob up north in 2 weeks flying twins with view to moving onto twin turbines.
Excellent conditions too I might add
IMHO NOW is the best time to get back into it if you are fair dinkum about doing it and are ABLE to do it taking into consideration finances, lifestyle etc etc.
Best of luck either way you go
