Converting ATPL to JAR Licence
Have an OZ ATPL, command inst rating, and class 1 medical. Have approx 5000 hours command wide body. Any idea what is required to convert to JAR?
Have looked at their regs and understand an agreement exists between OZ and JAA states but regs aren't particularly clear on exact requirements.
Thanks.

I was quoted 14000 pounds to do all of the conversions. 4000 for the ATPL course and exams and 10000 pounds for the IR conversion which requires 10 hrs of actual training before the test.
I did hear that if you had 3000hrs on an aircraft above 30tonnes then you could just do an air law exam but thats only valid in the UK and is not valid in other JAR countries..
A mate of mine just completed the conversion, his handle is helldog. Send him a PM

If you want to convert your license and you have 1500 hours in command of aircraft over 30T. You should talk to the UK CAA about getting your logbooks assessed for a ''restricted to fly UK reg 's only JAA''. If accepted you will need to do both JAA Air Law , Human Performance exams plus a sim ride. You will need to pay for the sim and TRE plus the guy from the CAA to sit in the back.
IF you want a full JAA license it is back to the books for 14 subjects (all this information is for the UK). You can do the study in OZ on computer but may need to come to the UK to sit the actual exams. There may be an opportunity to sit them in OZ but I don't know those details.
You sit them, pass them and then do the sim ride excersize.
A full JAA does not restrict you in what reg you can fly and that is becoming very powerful as other registrations fly wet leases all over the world.
I did all this in 2005. I estimate £2000 for self study and exam fees + whatever 4 hours in a sim is plus the CAA which was around £700.
Speak to Bristol ground school. Their course worked for me.
It is a powerful license and I am personally happy to have it.

Yes there is and I got caught with it. I had to resit 2 exams or risk losing more exams if I time expired. You need to complete all 14 exams within 2 years (I recollect) or you lose the lot you have passed. There are also criterea for how many times you can fail and resit etc. The trick is once you start: you go for it.
