My 2cents..
This thread highlights to me the easy going attitude in Australia that we all treasure so much (and is being slowly eroded away by paranoid and over-controlling government, both state and fed).
I grew up in the eastern bloc during 70's and 80's when one wouldn't even think of looking, never mind taking a photo around a military installation of ANY sort.
Approaching such an area with a camera was likely to get you done for treason.

All this and more is on Google. I looked at RAAF Tindal NT and you can plainly see an F-18 and a C-130 taxiing. RAAF Pearce WA has several Starlifters and a Challenger 600 on the tarmac.
