Career - Airline of Choice

Considering the changing aviation environment in australia, planned growth and competition, which airline is the most desired to be employed by?

Years ago it was generally Qantas or Ansett, has that changed to the likes of Cathay, Virgin or Jetstar, or the middle eastern carriers, considering if you were selected by Qantas, you could be a career second officer and be choosing career suicide. Is Qantas now seen as a bad option if you want promotion and job security?

After thoughts on those in the airlines and those still working their way towards an airline. Which airline would you prefer?

The whole paradigm of the Airline Pilot career path has changed. This change has been driven by the policies of the various airline managers at virtually every airline company in the world. Each airline is now mearly a stepping stone in one's career path;use each one for your own ends and your own career development. The fact that you now pay for your endorsments at most comapnies should be a big hint that this is now the nature of the game. At the end of the day, you must accept that you work for your family and seek what is the best outcome for yourself and the familial stakeholders.

Cathay? What with the OZ basings and all, shame about the varying pay scales though....

Still reckon the biggest shake up will happen if Emirates start basing crews in Oz, would certainly solve their alleged crewing problems

I get a kick out of the word "career" when its used in the aviation world.....it used to be..... it,s become more of an endurance test
