Questions about flight training in Australia
Hi All, I am a new comer of this forum and also a new born baby of the aviation world. Like many of you, I decide to start my PPL training to learn how to touch the sky in Australia next year. I would like to get your advice on the following flying schools regarding thier quality of flight instructor, equipments and facilities, location as well as the most "critical" factor --- the fees~~~
1) Aerospace Aviation
2) Basair
3) General Flying Services
4) FTA / AFTC
Thank you for your advice~~~

G'day Hitman
Mate, Questions like yours come up every month or so, and each time there are pages of responses.
Try doing a search on the D&G forums for those school names. You'll get enough hits to keep you reading for "a while".

Hi,
All these schools are good, I dont know when you compare with others.
I train in basair. Its very good.I also got a friend from Hong Kong here.
Aerospace is also very good. Basair and aerospace has the max number of operations here in bankstown airport.
Bankstown is a very good airport to do your training.
GFS is also very very good.. I would rate it as the best in this three.. although i have not seen it, but i have heard of it.
Basair is very good but i personally feel that it is getting very conjusted with students.
hope this helped

Flying Training
Hitman,
I am also a newcommer to flying training, having been a long time enthusiast but never - until now - had the cash to do anything but dream & go to airshows.
I have spent the last 6 months researching and preparing for CPL/ATPL studies next year, the first thing I did was spend the cash and get a class 1 medical (no point spending the training $ if I am medically unfit), spent a lot of time reading forums (recommend you read posts by Chimbu chuckles regarding training), then phoned/visited a large number of schools and finally did a TIF with GFS Moorabbin in their brand new glass cockpit 172. That was FUN!
Still have not committed to a flight school or even the 'career switch' but, have drawn some conclusions from my research:
1) 'Cadetships' that offer very limited "guaranteed hours of paid flying at the end of the course" are nothing more than a scheme whereby the flight school takes an enormous sum of money from you and gives a very small amount back to you while you instruct the next batch of students for them or get a few hours ICUS. Seems like bad value to me.
2) Most of the city based schools charge way too much for their courses, several of the schools you mention will give very little change from $100K for a MECIR with a couple of other ratings thrown in (such as aerobatics - "confidence builder"). This is not an ad, but a school in my home town offers progression from scratch to MECIR with a Dip. Av. thrown in for $45K, the only thing they dont include is the frozen ATPL, which as available elsewherefor about $5K
(This is my first ever post, not sure if I can name school names, PM me for more details)
Having said the above GFS (Moorabbin) seems to be pretty good and those brand new C172s look pretty good to me, although there is great debate throughout Oz GA about the value of training on glass then 'converting' back to anologue when you get your first GA gig.
Mate, if you have a hot tip for me, dont be shy in posting it.
Cheers,
ABX
