A bit of History - MMA DC9
Looking to rack the brains of the older and wiser amongst us.
Does anybody remember whether MMA actually operated one of Ansett's DC9s for a time with the Ansett title removed and MMA in its place?
I have one of those seat pocket propaganda things that has it in the MMA fleet, but all that really proves is an intent. I also have a childhood memory of it parked at the Darwin terminal, but I don't trust that either.
Cheers,
K

I am not sure I qualify on the “wiser” criteria, but I don’t have any recollection of MMA using DC-9s . . . I think the first ones to WA carried Ansett and TAA livery. From memory, MMA changed its livery to Ansett (but with MMA in place of Ansett) pretty quickly after the acquisition in the early 1960s. Take a look at http://www.raafawa.org.au/wa/museum/mma/default.htm
As an aside, I saw (and took a picture of) DC-3 VH-MMA in Darwin about 10 years ago – in 1961 I was a 10 year old passenger on that aircraft from Perth to Port Hedland (via Geraldton, Carnarvon, Onslow, Mardee and Robourne) and stood in the cockpit for some take-offs and landings. I was hooked!

The first flight in WA by an MMA crew was 11 Apr 1978. To quote from Reg Adkins' book I Flew For MMA, "the MMA crews picked it up at Gove, flew it via Darwin and Hedland down to Perth and back again, where the Ansett pilots would take it back down the East coast.".

Thanks Capt. Bloggs! I knew you were a good guy
Seems maybe the childhood memory was simply of seeing the AN DC9 in Darwin, since that would have probably been a rarity in itself. I have searched the 'net high and low for pics with MMA titles to no avail.
