here are the schools in NZ with NZQA approval(this is NZ immigration policy, cant get around this requirement if u want a student permit/visa).
Be aware there is a difference between straight forward NZQA approval (required for student loans) and NZQA approval to accept international students.

Too true mate. Not just for the cash and references, but having some life experience in another field will certainly give one an edge over the straight out of high school students.
Most who have worked find the courses a breeze, compared to those straight out of high-school that seem to think it is the hardest they have ever worked in their lives.

ECT
P.S. take morning tea to a commercial operator and learn how they work. It'll be a real eye opener and give you a head-start on all the other pilots. Hey - it worked for me!

....THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT i.M TALKING ABOUT......one word.....PATHETIC!!!

ECT....nothing personal,no malice......but if this is how you get "ahead" of other pilots.....how far does ones integrity go????.....PM me if you have too,....I.m reallly trying to understand this one....PB

Jeez PB... did you never even visit a flying school before you started your training?? Thats all I think ECT is suggesting.

People that arent in the industry have absolutely no idea of how things work in aviation. Many live in la la land thinking that they will be flying for an airline once they finish their training, and that is one of the reasons why the sausage factories, and especially the degree based one, get so many students.

If somebody takes the time to go and visit a few schools and speak to the CFIs, etc., then yes, they are one step "ahead" of the other students.

Disagree?

glekichi...your point is taken, and owe ECT an apology as my intial reading of his posts indicated someting totally different(reckon you have to read this stuff more than ten times to make it sence).........

...never did visit a flight school ,too busy loading fletchers with pelleted, inoculated seed and then jumping out of 300,s and 500,s...

ECT,.....IF your christian thingy allows it,...the misses, the dog and a tray of Tui,s are yours for the weekend.....if that wont suffice, then Ill have to go on a poaching run...by the way it wasnt the "cup of tea" thing that threw me.....

The various B.Av degrees aren't worth much outside aviation. Don't write off university first either. You'll have a great time and 3-4 years isn't a huge amount of time in the big scheme of things. I worked for a few years after leaving school, did a bit of flying then went to Uni at the age of 22. Got back into flying after graduating 4 years later and been pretty much flying ever since, the last couple of years instructing part-time while working full-time in aviation. Going pretty well so far, great for networking.

Don't be in a hurry. Enjoy it. And don't drink crappy coffee.

Yeah Just like a degree in law is not much help when fixing cars.

How about you all stop moaning and do something useful.

This poor guy has probably just been put off aviation for good.

How bad can AFS really be - look at all those shiny new planes!

All is forgiven

No worries P-B. As an experienced pilot, you will have seen sides of aviation that I haven't.

Cheers,
