Seems Mr. Bullwinkle is a half empty glass man. I'm a half full man and I say this thread is alive and well and has more replies than the other one.
Conolences to all. It's always so damn frustrating to hear when another small'ish plane crashes; it makes everyone point the finger at small planes.

I knew Brendan Rassie very well, previously senior pilot for Air Capricorn, Rockhampton. This is a very sad day for all concerned. Sincere Condonlances to your family mate.

First of all condolences to families affected - in times like this words are inadequate and hollow.
The PA31 was aquired by the current owner (Armflame in Gladstone I believe) very recently.
Apparently the 3 people on board were Brendan Rassie (new to company as pilot after leaving Air Capricorn), Luke (existing company pilot) and a company engineer (minig or civil - not Aircraft engineer).
Witnesses on the ground in Emerald have reported that the A/C was experiencing engine problems in Emerald prior to departure - this may or may not be related.
What I can confirm is that there were T/storms in the area at the time - I was keeping and eye on them on the BOM Gladstone Radar most of the evening.
Who knows - all will be revealed in the fullness of time ...

more details on www.news.com.au
sorry, that is not a link, you'll need to go to it manually.
there is a distressing photo there.
from the web site,
Police have released names, they are:
Luke Straatmans, 22, Boyne Island, Qld
Keith Suter, 33, Gladstone, Qld
Brendan Rassie, 47, Rockhampton
May they rest in peace, their lives finished but unfinished.
sorry we had a "my post is better than your post" on this topic, I did post before this thread started, doesn't matter.
The accident site is near waypoint GLAWA, for the Gladstone rwy 10 RNAV approach.
It is also on the direct track, EML - GLA, so no conclusions as to whether it is another RNAV accident.
The aircraft would have been on descent, regardless, and the thunderstorm activity was severe.
Don't know if it suffered structural failure or was just too low, unlikely because the terrain is up to 2,500 in the area, and the ridge that was struck was 600' agl, possibly 1,000' amsl.
ATSB will come up with some expert conclusions, judging by their very thorough investigation of the Tassie Shrike accident.
hope this info helps those who were wondering and waiting.

Mr Ware - you have done a dis-service to our industry. Don't know you (and dont want to) but what has happened about the presumption of innocence until proven otherwise in this country.
I hope that someone is having a good talk to you about this?

Very low act Peter.
Shame on the ABC for printing those coments.
spare a thought for the familys and friends of those on board before opening
your trap again Peter. Let the ATSB do their job with out the media bashing.

It would seem Mr Ware is just stating a fact.
Certainly insensitive - especially the timing - and he probably shouldn't have commented at all.
I also wonder if our friends in the media have reported all he said - or if they just picked out the "juicy" bit?
It certainly seems to infer that the pilot caused the accident - but is that just the way the media have reported whatever he said?
I don't know Ware - perhaps he is such an A-hole???? But I would be giving him the benefit of the doubt unless the concensus is that he is.
IMHO.
