Aircraft down in Central Qld

the following is from the ABC website:

Light plane crashes in central Qld
Emergency crews are at the scene of a light plane crash in central Queensland.

The aircraft came down this evening on a property at Raglan, south of Rockhampton.

Local resident Terry Leggett says few details are known.

"What I've heard so far is that there's obviously an aircraft gone down approximately six kilometres south of the Raglan Tavern," he said.

"We have no report exactly how many people were on board at this stage, but from what reports we've heard it's not looking good."

ABC news reported that an aircraft, believed to be a Chieftain, has crashed around 7:30 pm Eastern Standard Time.

The aircraft may have been on a flight from Emerald to Gladstone.

At the time, and still, there is a line of thunderstorms in the area.

Time for us to pause, reflect and offer some silent words.

More details are expected to be available tomorrow, (Wed).

A sad night.

CB's around RK and GLA all evening.

Disappeared from radar at around A050 on descent.

Our thoughts go out to the families involved.

Three dead in Qld light plane crash
Three people have been killed in a light plane crash south of Rockhampton in central Queensland.
Property owners at Raglan just off the Bruce Highway say they heard an engine cut out and a loud explosion around 7pm AEST.
Police have confirmed that a twin-engine Piper Navajo carrying three people has crashed killing all passengers.
The plane was en route from Emerald to Gladstone.
Police say the darkness and rainy weather means they will not be able to recover the bodies until daylight tomorrow.
Forensic experts are expected to fly from Brisbane to help with the identification.
Alan Stray, from the Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB), says the plane appears to have ploughed into a hillside.
"About an hour ago, the ATSB was notified that a twin-engined eight-to-ten seat aircraft has crashed near Raglan and tragically all on board are deceased," he said.
"The ATSB is mobilising a team of investigators who will proceed to the accident site."

Our thoughts are with their families,
BW

The ATSB Interim Factual Report makes you wonder about the maintenance history of the aircraft.
