live and work in new zealand ???

Hi,
do you think it's possible to find a FO or CPT position based in new zealand, for a french guy with a good turboprop experience.
My family and me have felt in love this country.

thanks

Rameaub,

Anythings possible, but not many (if any) companies take direct entry Captains, so don't go getting your hopes up.

With more info, TT, A/C types etc I might be able to give you a better idea of who you should approach, given you are french maybe you have experience on the ATR42/72 in which case Mt. Cook operate this type.

Other things to consider are license conversion, info avail from www.caa.govt.nz , and immigration, search www.govt.nz.

Hope this helps

Cheers

You have absolutely no chance without NZ residency or a work permit, so you need to have a think about that first. And then, of course, you need to convert your licence (not too big a deal).

Those of us who have returned from Europe to NZ have had problems finding work here, so it will probably be harder for you. If you are prepared to be a F/O on a Beech 1900D for a few years, you may have some luck... but whether or not the NZ airlines would hire you over a Kiwi is another issue!

You never know until you try, though. I had many happy years flying around France... you sure you want to move?

Hi

Speaking of residency/work permits does any one know of any foreign pilots that have been given residency/work permit. What about non New zealanders(Aussies an exception here) who have trained in NZ.Aussies have stopped issuing residence permits to pilots from nov 2005. I dont think pilot profession is there on the NZ skilled labour shortage list.So migrating under the skilled migrant policy is not possible i think.Correct me if i am wrong here.If anybody has any inputs please chip in.I know the place is filled with low time pilots but still any chance for non kiwi pilots .

thanx

As far as I know, you have to have the right to live and work in NZ. That's basically what stops many of us from working in the UK and Europe. I would imagine that NZ is slightly less stringent in its immigration policy though, so do check it out directly.

If you are able to move here, you should be able to find work. The companies to concentrate on would be Mount Cook (ATR72), Eagle (Beech 1900) and Jetconnect (B733/734) but there are others. You probibly won't get any joy from Air Nelson as they don't tend to take overseas pilots unless they have recent experience in NZ (don't ask me why).

Have a look at http://www.pilot.staffcv.com, and Jetconnect Recruitment

I hope that helps, good luck.

Here goes this "recent NZ IFR" again, well why is this an issue with some of the employers over there. It must be the only place around that has a few hills and clouds. Conditions must be 0/0 alot with all the Cat 3 installations around the place, (not)

Cloud has it on the mark

Expect local favouritism.....remember you didnt do 1000hrs of C152 instruction in the circuit...you haven't done the hard yards flying a multi-piston sh*t heap in all weathers..onto an NDB at minima. Oh and one more thing....flying in NZ is far more "challenging" than anywhere else on the planet must be because of all the global warming

And you have to promise not to blow up any ships.

They aren't just similar, they are virtually identical, being based on PANS OPS II like the rest of the world - well apart from Oz... there are very few real differences. An ILS is an ILS wherever it is. Of course NZ doesn't have anything other than Cat I ILS approaches, and the weather here is pretty easy compared to, say, a European winter.

The real differences are in operating philosophies, NZ backing the discredited Swedavia construct, and the rest of the world knowing better...
