CASA and PPL licence timeframe

I passed my PPL flight test yesterday but the CFI has told me that CASA can take up to like seven weeks to send out the licences? Is this normal for others?

Can anyone else who recently got their PPL let me know how long it took CASA to get their licences out to excercise it's privelliges, I don't want to be flying solo command hours until I get my CPL. Would be nice to take some people up and show them the countryside for command hours also.

I passed my test in March...it's now the end of October and several calls and a re-sent application has yielded nothing. Stay on top of them.

Three and a half months.

In that time I forgot how to land, but that's another story.

Don't stress about it Mr Engine
Mine took 10 weeks and it didn't kill me. You're probably just itching to do your first solo outback blast.
I remember doing a solo Xcountry in the weeks after completeing my test. Wasn't a big deal. The school simply treated it as a solo nav ex. I had to do a briefing and full flight plan so it cost a few bucks extra but it worked out pretty good. It was actually a bit of a confidence boost knowing I was being scutinised. You know - "you're a PPL now, you should know this stuff"

I'm a bit worried that the new crop of pilots accept this crap as being normal. It's not good enough and CASA should be hounded and badgered by you guys until it's fixed. Go to your local member and make a complaint. Go to the CASA office (if you can) and demand to know where it is.
Or better still, call licensing on 1300 737 032 and talk to them directly. I've called them on numerous occasions recently about ASIC and medical issues and they've always been friendly and helpful.

Yes, but if you do call them, write down names / dates / times, and don't let them put you off with a vague comment like 'it's in the system, should be with you soon'.
Try to get specifics out of them if possible, note them down, and then if it drags on you've got ammo to stop them giving you vague answers again.

It becomes even worse when you start talking about medical renewals. Then a time limit becomes introduced before said medical will lapse and you will be unable to fly full stop!

I am currently in this boat at the moment thanks to our wonderful regulator. I renewed my medical on its expiry date (August 25), I knew about the debarcle of the processing fee at the time so I tried to pay it then and there at the DAME's practice. They wouldn't accept it and said CASA would send me out a bill "in due time". Ok then, I'll just wait for that.

1 month goes by, and on September 26th I receive the "we can not process your medical because you have not paid us any money" letter. Ok then, the next week I send a check (not giving them my CC details!!). So last week, still not having heard anything I give them a call up and say whats the deal- I need a medical to be able to fly (work)! After waiting 20mins on hold (not a lie) I get told "oh sorry sir, your payment hasn't been processed yet, if you would like to pay using our new easy to use internet payment system then go ahead and do ....blah blah." No amount of me telling him that I had already paid would change the response.

So now here I am with 4 days to go before my medical stamp lapses, and still no renewed medical. Anyone else been in the same boat where their medical hasn;t come through on time and they have had to miss out on flying?

Its a bloody disgrace.

yeh, definately call them. i was going to central australia and wanted to 'exercise the priveledges of my licence' while i was there, ie. hire a 172 and go cruising around the outback. i spoke to a person who found my application and i had my licence a week and a half after passing my test, or two days after calling casa, express post. some person i spoke to first at casa told me i had buckleys, but then i spoke to another person who was really helpful and proved it can be sorted out quickly. so if you need your licence in a short time, speak to the right person at casa and you wont be waiting 2 or 3 months.

I think this is ridiculus!!
Doesn't the examiner issue the applicant with a Temporary certificate once passed. Something like the FAA has which is only vailid for 120 days until the proper certificate arrives??
what about these medical certificates?? why can't the Dr issue a medical certficate on the spot. He knows if your fit to fly NOT Casa!!
I've been waiting 3 weeks for a stupid medical certificate from CASA, can't do much till i get that.
We should expect A+++ service and only A+++ service from casa since we are the ones paying these huge and uncalled for fees. Things need to change in this country.
