Dam ..missed it. What did he say? Was he asking for a ride in the jump seat just for the experience or was he wanting a freebie ride home or something? .. Just curious.

Clarrie,
Yep, damned internet. The history you speak of is a laugh, innit.

DirectAnywhere,
No, you have it all wrong. Aircraft would not be in the jumpseat because that would be a violation of current regulations. Aircraft wouldn't trust themself to report the incident either, even if they had a self-reporting system...

A7 tried to get a jumpseat ride on a Jetstar flight out of Tassie(?) claiming that his QF and VB mates said it would be ok as long as he brought his ASIC along. The check-in guy at the Jetstar terminal didn't share A7's mates' views at all...

Direct Anywhere, very funny

Am I the only one on here who's wife/partner thinks they're a bit strange because of the out loud chuckles they can here whilst their partner is reading aviation related websites?

serious question now...

how is it that after many positive and useful contributions to a thread by other parties, the originator still has the power to delete the thread? That doesn't seem right to me.

What do you all think?

edited i.l.o posting again to say: no seriously, my question is in the broader sense - how can this board software allow an originator of a thread wield this power, when the time, thoughts, considerations and energy of others are included? In my opinion, once you've stuck your neck out on a public forum, it doesn't seem a good principle to be able to wind it back in again, leaving no trace, does it?

This is of course an entirely separate issue to moderation, thread-locking etc by the powers-that-be, which I have no problem with generally.

Andy. Don't push the point. The originator deleted the thread. OK?

canning the thread

Withdrawing/cancelling one's own thoughts/expressions is our own free choice.
However, I do not believe we have the right to cancel/ignore or throw judgement on the free will expression of others unless we wish to move into a non-democratic and definitely a non-free will society.
To quote in a not so accurate prose; I may disagree with your opinion, but I will defend to the death your right to express it.
If my opinions upset others, then that is their right to be upset.
ARE WE NOT A BUNCH OF EDWARDIAN, OR OTHERWISE, BUSTARDS???

I am also disappointed that the thread could be wiped so easily. Apart from the sh1t slinging, other good points of discussion were raised... QNH's details on the Qantas hijack attempt for example.

I can also understand why A7 pulled it though. If anyone else in the industry knew who he was, his whole credibility was blown.

He did actually state his name in his post, I think. Maybe that's why he pulled it?

Yeah, but just en edit would have sufficed. But if you're game enough to reveal your identity on a public forum, then you should be game enough to wear it as well. Just my two pesos worth
