That's one Looooong Taxi

I was on a QF Citiflyer flight from Sydney to Brissy the other day, and the guy sitting next to me asked if I knew how long the taxi is from Gate 3 to the holding point of 34R. I guessed it was about 5 Km but I just google mapped it and it is 5.85 Km. Wow.

Does anyone know of longer taxi distances? Except of course the taxi back when you failed your IFR renewal.

Defiantely Honolulu. I have been out of there a few times and it seems that the night time departures get the massively long taxi. It must take 20 minutes to get around. In the dark it is more frustrating as there are just lights in every direction.

How about JFK? Not necessarily that long distance wise, but being number 28 in the queue at the back of the conga line makes for a loooooong taxi....!

I remember at Orlando, Florida around ten years ago, aircraft was rolling for 25 min as we went from one side of the airport to the other taxiing for departure.

I seem to recall that the far end of FCO is... well, it feels like you're driving right into the centre of Rome.

And from the bottom of the old terminal at Barajas to the top of the new L strip must be a bit of a hike (can't Google that one, looks like they've conjoined two satellite passes at different phases of construction!)

Ok, so what happens if the weather changes during taxi and now you have to go all the way to the other end?

Pffft to the lot of you!

Try the RWY18 complex in Amsterdam, then go to the freight arpon. It takes about 20 mintues to taxy there.
Not sure how far it is in KM's but I'll try Google Earth to get a straight line distance. Back in a minute.

20 minutes at 25Kts. Then land there in 150m Vis with an SOP LVO max taxi speed of 10kts....and it takes a while!!

Heh, yeah that'd take a while.
I feel like I need to present my passport there as we leave the runway, as it's nearly in another country and we have to cross the border to get to Amsterdam.

How about the taxi from BNE international terminal or freight terminal to the threshold of the new parallel runway when it's built in 2010?

Right up past the domestic, across to the western side on what is currently the second runway, and then right down to the south-western end of the new runway!

You don't run into brake over-heating problems in light planes just by taxying around.
747's can - Most airlines limit the groundspeed to 20kts with the plane about 320 tonnes, and the rate of increase in temperature with simple taxying I cant' remember off the top of my head but it's an important factor in many places.
At hot airports such as Dubai, where we do turn-around as quickly as possible in a heavy plane, I generally taxy slowly to limit brake heating and also use the whole runway to stop. This is to help the outgoing crew when they pick up the plane after me.
