5 hours night command for MECIR renewal.... WHAT ???

Can some one please give me some insight into the rules for the MECIR...

I am due for a renewal and have been told that to be given a renewal I must have 5 hours of night command under my belt. Have I missed something / is this correct ????

I cant find anything about 5 hours night command for the issue of a renewal and would appreciate input from others

cheers.

CAO 40.2.1 para 8.3 only refers to the need for 5 hours night command time when going for an initial issue of a CIR - " except for those persons whose licence is restricted to day only operations, 10 hours night flight of which not less than 5 hours shall be as PIC on the category of aircraft for which the rating is sought."

What is your status, do you currently hold a command instrument rating? If you do and there is no "daylight ops" restriction, you would have already met the requirement.

Well first of all, who told you that, the ATO?

Secondly, there were a few people in the late nineties that were slipping through the CIR flight test and being issued a rating without the required night hours. Now, it seems possible that this may be an attempt to correct that oversight. As to the legal hornets nest you may be poking at, Creampuff might like to comment. A rating issued by CASA, in error and later an honest ATO trying to correct the omission. Mmmmmmmmmm
