Flying in NT & WA

I am a Kiwi pilot looking for flying work in either the Northern Territory or parts of Western Australia. Can anyone give me an idea of where most operators are located in this part of Australia?

I have low hour time, so really prepared to travel and talk with any air charter company. I was informed Broomie or Darwin would be worth my while checking out.

Any advice or ideas would be greatly appreciated

I note the Federal government is about to trial a Pilot scheme whereby a grant of $5000 is available to anyone willing to move north to a job.

This is better, finally some coin back to the people that make it all happen

Old mate tinny isnt known for his wind-ups so is this for real?

If my math is correct i can move north and get some chick pregnant for $9k? not too bad just do it 3 times a year and I will be on the award wage for a GA pilot

Im on my way up there shortly

No wind-up

If a pilot were to get a grant tho I reckon I'd bare me arse in Mitchell street

...Having said that depending on the strings attached to the five grand and whether or not and it is administered by those numpties in centeremissinglink...it may be useful if you have other skills to get a job up here while you look around.
Fella on Lawsey this morning been up here since Ansett went tits up ...loving it got a flash house and is working as an electrician........

Highflyer777, Darwin and Broome are both great spots for newbies, just choose one and go there. Not much use contacting them if your not in town, the story is always the same... "not looking for anyone at the mo but send in your res if you like and I'll put it with the other 500". Once your there, getting all the contact and company info you need is easily obtained from the flying schools, directory or infomation centre. Then you can turn up at their door looking smart with a fresh resume, a big smile and all ready to go. But be prepared to find other work for a few months while you wait for your shot. Personally I think it's better to stay in one place and target 3 or 4 operators than move from town to town sending resumes to every man and his dog.
Tip of the week.............. Kakadu Air in Jabiru were advertising for pilots last week.

Thank you Roger Copy Ta, I really appreciate your advice. I have already got the ball rolling and intend to be in NT and WA in 2 weeks time. I totally agree with you, you have to be there in their office if you want a job. I have not wasted my time sending resumes to any operators as I will be there in person to talk with them. How easy is it to find other work in the mean time?

Do you have any more info on Kakadu Air, hours, and how many pilots etc they are looking for?

Very easy to get work as long as your not too proud to serve drinks, pump gas, wash dishes or stock shelves, just whatever (Skycity Casino pay very well, I’d try there first).

This position has most likely been filled by now but there will be more. Have been out of the Kakair loop for awhile but generally if you have close to 300hrs, can fly a circuit and DON’T have a girlfriend, then they’ll take you. Good job to build hours and there is steady progression from there to Hardys Aviation in Darwin if you keep a clean rep. Main hiring season is between Feb and April before the busy dry season. Strangely they often seem to struggle to find pilots and end up advertising. With so many young pilots supposedly out there looking for work it’s shocking that a company like this has to advertise its positions! (Moral of the story is that the jobs are there if you look for them)
Goodluck mate.

Payment??

Is Kakadu Air one of those outfits that expects pilots to turn up every day, and stay all day, but only pays for hours flown?? So you may not fly for the week, and get no pay.

I have heard these stories.
