Title says it all!
If the moderators have chosen to close it because of the last two pages then fine, acceptable. However perhaps if the mods didn't like what was being posted they should look at the source and not close an otherwise informative thread.
To all those posting about Mt Cook (NOT ANSETT) please continue in this thread, if its not related to the Cook negos then off.

Good call HB.
A little too much wharfie mentality on the previous one. Some of those boys need to burn the Marx card they carry in their hip pocket.
Forget the past and get on with it.

Yip, fair cop. I withdraw the question, your honorific Woomeras. Actually, I was surprised not to be sent to the sin bin, so thank you Woomeras, I promise to behave now.
Now, in case anyone has forgotten, isn't tomorrow, that being Thursday 10th August, some sort of announcement regarding this "facilitation" (I think just a swept up form of mediation) between Mt Cook and the pilots? Maybe someone a little closer to the action can let us know the result (and restart a very good thread).
Keep smiling!

OEO Pete
The story goes......
When Pete was an engineer for Air Nelson, an aircraft had an engine problem and it had to be shut down in flight. Quite serious I think.
Pete requested from the pilots... (after much discussion/debate), could they start the engine??... take off... SHUT IT DOWN IN FLIGHT ... then restart it before landing in Nelson. (Sure there are rules against that somewhere)
Shows his mentality Top guy.
To the more distinguished pilots out there, correct me if I am wrong.
P.S. Sorry to hear about the Origin layoffs, hopefully Cook may start employing again once they sort this s t out. Heard of more Cook pilots leaving. Wish you all the best.
The market is a certain size and needs a certain number of pilots, I'm sure the Air NZ Group will do well from the experience that the Origin pilots have. Unfortunately GA may suffer for a year or or so. Chin up..

Can't speak to this particular case, but there are circumstances when it is quite acceptable to restart an engine for landing, particularly if the shutdown was precautionary. Low oil pressure springs to mind, but there are others as well, depending on the type.
The landing isn't the issue, it is the possibility of a go-around.
Doesn't mean this particular chap isn't a wally, of course...

fyfe.......exackery mate!!!...only so many jobs,for so many pilots....and as a former poster told me....no ****e sherlock!!!!
My question, now that there is a abundance of pilots on the street(not sure how many).....will we see "those that have not",willing to accept unfavourable work conditions of "those that have"......and Mt Chook mgt using this as a bargaining tactic.....I reckon we all know the answer to that one ay
To constantly wish both Origin and Mt CHOOK pilots all the best, sometimes sounds a little hollow, but there are many of us who have had to go through similar situations. As other posters have suggested, there is life after....... and there is.It is a matter of how willing you are to pursue this "aviation disease"that you have contracted.....IT AINT EASY......PB

Sorry Raw, I could have been clearer.
The pilots shut down the engine in flight, landed at an airport away from engineering base.
Pete then wanted the pilots to start-up and take off to fly the lame duck back for engineering. Don't think that is acceptable. Goes against my best judgement.
PB, When the A airline that we can not talk about fell over, other airlines expanded to fill the market. Most of the A guys were employed again shortly after (or moved on), Cook got some Whisperjets (with pilots) for a while and its ATR fleet expanded. Origin Pacific expanded to the point of operating about 18 pax aircraft. There will be other airlines expand an make jobs available. Like you say some may have had enough of chasing the aviation disease.

Sqwark,
If the Fiji deal involves ATR's don't hold your breath. I hear legal action is going to tie this up until the cows come home, which on Fiji time isn't good.
They do look good painted up and all.
Good to see the Convair around and about as well.

Employment Relations Authority has made draft recommentdation. Only AirNZ (I mean Mt Cook, I mean the employer!) and ALPA negotiators are privy to it. Both parties make submissions and then Final Recommendation made by facilitator probably in a few weeks............hopefully.
Taking It From Fyfe, I think the Asymetric one also had a shot fired at his family home a few years ago when he was at a previous job (in Engineering?) And he only took a year or so to piss others enough off for that to happen at that job!!!!!!
