Pop Quiz for ANSETT-ers

Hi All,

Long time Reader, First time caller.

I was wondering if anyone can help me figure out what was the first Airliner I first rode on

Details are:
Flight no. : AN19
Route: SYDNEY - GOLD COAST
Date: 23 January 1994
Boarding Time: 540pm
Seat No. 10C

I first thought it was a B767, but looking at the boarding pass 10C fairly close to the front. It was definately a twin jet engine aircraft. I'm thinking its a A320 or B737-300 now

Anyone that may have an old Ansett timetable handy could shed some light.

Thanks and looking forward to your responses.

Ripper Response

Mmmnn...

I love those sorts of productive replies. Anyone else had enough of that sort of poop?

Edit PS : Mine wasn't the first reply... Rob Roy's has been completely removed due rancid content.

Slight thread creep as I can't answer T.O.M.'s question.

First flight and airline flight to boot. YMEN-YSCB, May/June '71, TAA F27.

T.O.M,

Could have been any of the above. Even if a particular type was scheduled originaly, Ansett used to delight in substituting equipment on a whim for any number of commercial/crewing/maintenance reasons.

If you're sure it was a twin, the only type it couldn't have been is a 146. If you're not sure, it might even have been a Quadra-Puff.

Mine was an East West F27... YSSY-YSTW and return on 26 May 1981. Mystery flight with my older sister for my 8th birthday I later spent a couple of the best years of my life flying there. Ah, nostalgia!

I'll go out on a limb and say A-320, unless it was a weekend then quite possibly 767.

Ummm...I'm probably wrong, but I seem to recall that the Northbound flights were even numbers. AN19 eventually became a SYD-MEL flight, so I think you've either got the flight or routing wrong.

Some might like to discuss the recent Jetstar Sale or the F111 crash in Bris. and some might like to share their first commercial flight for a matter of interest.

So if you blokes dont like it, keep your harsh comment to yourself

Discussing a few Ansett old schedules is nothing short of "poop"

Ouch! Second post and you've had a crack at Big W!

Not a good move...especially when Woomera had removed a post that appeared to have been insulting to you & passed no comment in your direction...

Edit: Just realised Victor India copped a spray as well & wasn't having a go at you either! Better get some of dem Chill Pills Tom.

Steady on TOM... I see you've just made your second post.

A fella by the name of "Rob Roy" actually made the first reply to your post - his were the harsh words. Woomera (our moderator) deleted his post due to it's negative contribution.

When I said
I love those sorts of productive replies. Anyone else had enough of that sort of poop?
I was referring to Rob Roy's harsh comments. You'll see I shared my first experience a few posts later. Errr... first flying experience I mean

Woomera - maybe leaving some of the offending post avoids this confusion?

Best of luck TOM in finding the answer...

First flight I remember was out of Port Moresby in a DC3 in late 1974 to come and live downunder when I was 5yo. Up until then we lived on Skid Row on the edge of the airport and our front yard overlooked the airport. Been watching planes since I can remember and still have near misses on the freeway as I stick my head through the windscreen to watch a plane go over.

Roger - you reminded me... I was one of Sydney City Junior's worst (soccer) fullbacks... constantly being screamed at by Mum as I gazed at noisy turbojets on approach/departure over Sydney's Eastern and South Western suburbs while the goalie copped the lot

Sorry if my second post came across as a bit too rough.

You all do understand my anger when you get flamed on and shot down by a fellow aviator.

The question wouldnt be any different from "Did anyone see the Type of acft FedEx flew into SYD last week?"

The way I see it, the question was not that bad, I'm just wanting what type of aircraft it, (considering this is an aviation euthusiast website) and maybe someone from this forum might have been working that night with our dearly beloved Ansett. (glimmer of hope)

Thanks Guys

PS also I should apologise to woomera, I copy and pasted the wrong name!

Hi T.O.M,

Thing is, there isn't one post here that flames you in any way. You are mis-reading something if you think anyone is.

Some idiot did put up something disparaging, but Big W binned him very quickley.

I can lay my hands on a 'blue' ABC guide (departure cities A-M) for Winter 93/4 but not a 'red' one (N-Z). So Ansett Gold Coast-Sydney schedules are all 146s or B733s. But I can't check the other direction for specific flights.

However AN19 seems to be a once-a-week SYD-MEL-PER flight.

I'm 10,000 miles away so I don't give a toss who flames me.

While we're at it, 1968, Wynyard - Melbourne, TAA F-27 rego VH-TFF and I even have a pic of it...

Years later I even worked on VH-TFF, pity it was a C210 by then...
