Another Call for AUS/PNG Pilot Wing Information

Hi All:

Firstly, I would like to thank everyone who responded previously with information and photographs on this topic.

Now that I am approaching retirement myself, I will now have more time to devote to completing this very important cataloguing task. So, once again, I am appealing for assistance.

The original objective of my mission can be read in my first post. This objective has not changed.

As many of you ex-PNG aviators are now approaching "lapun tru" status, it is imperative that I can collate your collective knowledge for this catalogue. Photographs of wings (back and front) is critical to aid future collectors in determining whether wings are genuine or replicas.

Appreciate your assistance, thanks.

QSK?; Very nice to see this thread resurrected.

I recently found an example of the old Aerial Tours wings that were given to me as a present by DD himself back in the time I worked for Douglas Airways.

I will see what I can do regarding posting a piccy of them, in due course.

Unfortunately Chuckles and Tinpis no longer frequent these pages but hopefully those who have contact with them will draw their attention to this thread.

Indeed a historical post Pinky. That must be the only time in his life that DD/Biscuit Ears ever gave away anything but the time of day!!!

two seconds of your time.....

Actually, I found Denis D reasonable - if you met him on equal terms.

He wrote me a contract in 1974 which I re-negotiated, paid my own fare to Moresby, found the 'employed' pilots climbing the walls (physically walking on the chairs and thumping the wall) and then met the Operations Manager (not Denis) and mate who offered me a contract to sign by the next morning.....! I suggested I had a letter from Denis which they asked to see and I suggested they had their copy and I had mine.

My response was to ring Airfast in Sydney as I had a job offer from them, met their Chief Pilot the next morning as he was transiting Moresby and went over the hills to Crowleys for two years in Hoskins (my choice). He was quite amused to read the Douglas offer!

I did work for Douglas Airways for a year in '82 - all in Daru (again my choice) and have two sets of wings (found one discarded on the Ihu airstrip.......).

So if you need a Douglas Airways (1982) version - PM me.

Second that.

Actually Taily, I found him most reasonable and indeed slightly generous!

I'll pm you in due course with a short, factual story of his treatment of me.

DeRated; Lucky you to have two sets of those Dz wings. Wish I had one M'self.

Although I guess that not too many of those old Aerial Tours examples are still in existence so I consider myself somewhat lucky.
