pilotwannabe, don't know if you know about it or not but the Auckland Aero Club at Ardmore and any aero club have a programme called the Young Eagles. If my memory serves me correctly they do similar things to what wombat did for you. In that if the pilots are going flying on certain days and they have spare seats they are happy to take you allong. Please don't quote me on the specifics as it's been a while for me now but I'm sure they still do it.
Again, well done to wombat, we need alot more people like that in the world.
Cheers

Yes I have been told about it before but can not found any information about them.
Do you know if they have a website?
Thanks

WANNABE!
Here's a link for Young Eagles in New Zealand:
http://www.flyingnz.co.nz/youngeagles.html
... which should get you started in the right direction.
I'm active in the Young Eagles program in the US, specifically in the Hudson River Valley ~ from New York City ~> north ~ in New York State (US), and have helped six folks your age get started toward their PPL. Four of them have completed. It's a terrific program and I know you'll get a lot out of it.
Just after I graduated from high school, I set off alone for six months in New Zealand. I've been from Reigna to Bluff and back. New Zealand is blessed with what is probably the most varied and gorgeous landscape you can pack into a small country. But a place is just a place until you add people.
This thread's the proof of what I've always felt ~ based on meeting hundreds of people in Aotearoa ~ that New Zealanders are the most hospitable, generous and unassumingly friendly people I've ever had the pleasure of meeting.
I can't stop smiling.
Thank you!

Acrochic....
I could not agree with you more! New Zealand and its people are the best you will find anywhere. In fact, I was so impressed I married one. I hope that when I retire from the AF in a couple of years I can find a flying job there so I can get my wife closer to her family as well as raise my kids there. That and the fly fishing and beer just can't be beat!!
I have really been turned off by this site as well as the flightinfo site by all of the negativity...my faith has been restored.
Cheers,
JD

Auckland Aero Club used to run a Jean Batten Memorial Scholarship that provided training up to PPL (?) all you had to do was write an essay. Don;t know if it is still round but worth asking about. I think it was about this time of year.
Best wishes young fella!

That would be the Walsh Memorial Scout Flying School, info avaliable on the Scouting NZ website- including costs, application forms etc. While primarily for venturer scouts/ranger guides, there are usually spaces avaliable for non-scouting participants. The school is run for 2 weeks during January each year.

Thank you for telling me about the Walsh Memorial (I have found the website here: www.scouts.org.nz/schools/walsh.htm)
I have added the page to my favourites and am just about to download the information and entry forms.

"The Walsh" will be held between 11 & 25th Jan 2007, and judging by the last few that I have attended it will be excellent. Not only do most achieve their first solo, but I believe ALL have a wonderful time.
"The Walsh" is total emmersion in aviation. You eat sleep and breath it for 2 weeks in the sunny Waikato.
As well as learning to fly (to solo standard) there are also chances to fly in some pretty unique aircraft...like the Coupe, the Cub, and roumour has it that Slackie's going to have his 2 seat Pitts there next year - if you liked the Citabria then you'll LOVE the Pitts!!

Yip! She'll be there for a few days! Just to set the story right...I think I probably own the tailwheel...MAD is indeed a syndicate owned aircraft.
