William Creek and Tibooburra?

Just a quick question to all youse experts.

Sunfish's parter is an art teacher. I have succeeded in getting her into an aircraft with me (despite her better judgement) on the grounds of educating her about aboriginal art and seminal australian painters. I have taken her as far as Broken Hill to see Pro Hart's stuff.

Current plan is to entice her next week to William Creek via Broken Hill to experience what "Outback" means and then a night in Tibooburra to see the murals at the Family Hotel before making escape to Kerang to visit a retired QC mate.

I'm looking forward to a couple of what should be extremely scenic trips across Lake Frome and the Flinders Ranges, as well as the trip from YWMC to YTIB.

I would appreciate any comments/suggestions from people who know the area.

Area around Innamincka is fairly scenic, especially around 500' (or lower). Too high and you'll end up missing a heap. Following the Cooper Creek up to the Coongie Lakes you get to see some great outback scenery. Then head back to Innamicka and continue following the creek past Cullimarra waterhole over to the Qld border and stop off at the Burke and Wills Dig Tree.
Just watch out for the Kidman boys chasing cattle around in the 172!

Don't forget the Marree Man between Marree and William Creek, i've got the exact location marked on a WAC at home, trouble is i'm in Vic and home is Qld. Back there thursday, will let you know.
Flinders Ranges are incredible from above, anywhere really, but above is good too.

Flinders Rangers

You can't miss out on flying around the Wilpena Pound. About 15nm north of Hawker. and Arkaroola in the Northern part of the Flinders Rangers

Just North of the Pound is the hut that Hans Heysen did his painting from.

PM me and I'll fill you in on some phone numbers and strip details if you plan on putting down in the rangers somewhere. Some real bush tucker avilable at the Parachilna pub too.. (if it once walked the earth it can be on your plate)

have a good trip!

The Dig Tree

Which strip is the one nearby the Burke & Wills monument?
Is it Innamincka (YINN), Innamincka Township, or another strip altogether?
Thanks.

He's a bit overgrown now.

Oh, whatever did happen to those three Norweigian backpackers and the young fella that disappeared up the Oodnadatta Track in the back of Trevor's ute?

The Dig Tree Strip is about 2-3nm west of Nappa Merie on the northern side of the Cooper. Plenty long, but boggy after any rain.

The Flinders and north is just spectacular form either low or high level.
A very tortured piece of country.

Taken on LL survey East of Wilpena Pound looking back towards Wilpena.

Co-ordinates are 29° 34.5 mins S; 137° 27.3 mins E. It's in an area called Hermit's Hill, roughly halfway between Marree & the bottom of Lake Eyre South.

DF.

I don't know about her being Mayor, but she did receive some sort of medal in The Australia Day Honors list a few years ago. For her services in the field of communications with the State Emergency Service, I think it was.

Devil

And if you do drop into YLEC for fuel, make sure you take some fruitcake to give to Rosie though it must be said that she preferred the stuff that we used to 'liberate' from ASA's morning snack packs.
She feeds a couple of sleepy lizards that live near her office building with the stuff!

Drop in at Mungeranie Hotel, on the Birdsville Track. Decent strip, great little outback pub and thermal springs.

...Disco

Thank you all for your advice and suggestions. I'm doing the planning now and will put "Marree Man" into the GPS.
