Oh I love the bitchiness, bring it on!

Who else can we moan and whinge about?

Check out the thread about accomodation in Darwin - a few more people that are easily offended. Very entertaining.

ps What was Direct Air's community involvement scheme, no one answered my question?

i believe it is some sort of fundraiser where organisations apply to direct for a little help with cash i.e. im pretty sure darwin rugby league club got a fair chunk of cash last year. i think it goes by how many mile they fly on charters for the year and then money is allocated to relevent organisations. nice to see someone giving something back to the community.

hope that helped i dont know much about it but thats what i was able to find out.

cheers

Please don’t tell me they are still charging people for ICUS. Do they actually pay the Award in its entirety? That is a claim I would like to see backed up.
Happy flying.

Erin,

It is not a pay for ICUS program. It is an Instrument Rating Program that has hours allocated on several types after the rating. It has been a highly successful program with 100% of graduates obtaining gainful employment thereafter.

Rather than making assumptions may be you should invite any graduates of this program to comment and confirm the above. The program has helps many nail that job they have wanted.

Second of all , why dont you call any of the bases around the country and ask any one of the fifty odd staff whether they are been paid award (usually over the award) or not.

Like it or lump it Direct is an employer of choice and will continue to be so . This will explain their tight inner circle, once your in you are well looked after as Direct understands that they are only as good as their staff and have an excellent HR policy.
Hope this has helped.

Errr…………no.
Luvjet, this is not going to be a personal attack on you so please don’t get all revved up – although your posts do smell of management PR. I just want to know how charging pilots for an IR which includes ICUS (sugar coat it if you wish) will improve or maintain all professional pilot’s pay and conditions. I know you haven’t stated this in any of your posts but I think it is relevant. You can give back to the community and still take from the industry.
The Award doesn’t just include the salary or wage either. I don’t want to list the other bits again but you all know what you are or are not getting. Unless you get all of it – it ain’t the Award. To say otherwise is just blatant dishonesty.
I don’t know anything about the grant but I remember the NAC guys having to do a charity fundraiser day every year. A very token gesture from them (SW) to give back. I don’t know or care if Direct is the employer of choice with wannabies or about giving back to the community, but I do care about my pay and conditions.

Gee that cleared things up. Now we wouldn't say that Instrument rating was cheap would we.

Sounds to good to be true

What Job. I thought you had to get paid to have a job. Having a program that has hours allocated on several types after the rating would suggest they work for a set period not getting paid until they used up the hours they so kindly allocated to the organisation to use as they please. Sounds like buying a job. Seems they wil fit in nicely at Virgin or JetStar.

Not knowing what they get paid in allowances etc... hard to comment but it's funny how there are plenty of Companies that SAY they pay the award but don’t became signatories to the award. If I was D A mangement I would put my money where my mouth is and sign up for it. Maybe put something back into the pilots, instead of Rugby Teams that would pss the money up the wall on an end of season trip anyhow.

Maybe the Tight innercircle is something management enjoys so they dont talk shop whilst out and about. Maybe because there are truths in these words written about them??? who knows. But I'm sure the majority of pilots who work for them are just like everyone else, and just happy having a go.
Good luck to you all.
