An airshow with a difference - NT
I have just heard that an airshow has been arranged to take place at Yarralin Community on August 12 this year (for those not in the know - Yarralin sits right beside Victoria River Downs, is aboriginal community with a population of probably a few hundred locals) and that events consist of miltary flying displays, aerobatics, parachuting, chopper rides, a bush ban and a big barbeque. Yarralin has a good long airstrip, as does neighbouring VRD and is usually serviced by light twins and singles for transporting the locals about.
Anyone who has been to Yarralin will probably agree that it's one of the last places where you wuld expect to see a major airshow take place. Anyone got any more info on this?

CEO showed a video of an air-show and council discussed whether to hold an Airshow at Yarralin on Saturday August 12th 2006 the week before the Wave Hill walk-off celebrations. Council suggested also having a bush BBQ for visitors where we cook Goanna, Bush Turkey and other meats from the area. Council asked Nick to progress the event.

From memory the guy running Yarralin is a keen pylot so that would sort of explain that part of the show. But I find it hard to imagine anyone actualy wanting to go to Yarralin just to watch an airshow. After all it is about a 5hr drive from Kathrine and being a dry community at least 2 hrs to the nearest pub (not including VRD where water and beer are the same thing).
Should have the show at Hooker Creek, it's one of dem secure aiports with an ASIC requirement .

Any one up that way know if it is still Tony running Yarralin?
When I was out that way there was a very funny bugger in charge there, I remember a back burn round the town that went for about 70km North into the National Park, "She'll pull up when it hits the Vic river" some one was heard to say.
Also remember a few "airshows" at VRD in the past...

NORTHERN TERRITORY GOVERNMENT MEDIA RELEASE
YARRALIN AIRSHOW TAKES-OFF
The small community of Yarralin south of Darwin will host the first airshow in a remote area on August 12.
Chief Minister Clare Martin has officially announced the inaugural Outback Airshow and Concert.
This more than just an airshow its about a community taking a dream and turning it into a reality, Ms Martin said.
This is the result of a great community effort by the Walangeri Ngumpinku Community Government Council, traditional owners and pastoralists.
The displays of exceptional airmanship and fly-pasts are expected to attract tourists from around Australia.
The event will feature aerobatic champion Chris Sperou, parachuting, low level RAAF jet fly-pasts, formation flying, model aircraft, and rarely seen military jets from overseas.
The hi-tech aeronautical hardware will be complemented by bush tucker including turtle, turkey, goanna and wallaby.
The entertainment will continue into the night with rising Aboriginal band NOKTURNL and the Battle of the Bands.
In true outback style, visitors will be encouraged to bring their swags and sleep under stars, Ms Martin said.

Pay a single engine pilot $75k pa to be a chief?????
Destroy a legitimate Darwin (albeit floundering) company just to get hold of the building.
Oh, and the best one yet, Watch out Hardies and Chartair, These graduates are planing to target you guys in future to gain a monopoly on GA in Darwin and NT. Sad to see that they dont understand there is more experience in any single Hardy family member than the whole of the 'AAS I think I am,,,,'
And being so proud of head hunting the Aust Jet managers,,,, sheesh. What have you actually achieved in Darwin appart from soiling your own names. Do you have RPT yet???? or did someone else get it??????
Best laid plans of mice and men,,,, or just a load of pub bull it.
You may well take bat and ball if beaten. And burn in hell as you do so.

And one last thing.
To those who fly for these paricites. Get out and into a real job before you have to put AAS on your reference. There a 15 pilots that now have influence in different companies around Oz and every one of them is saying similar things about AAS to their CP's.
Sleep with dogs, wake up with flees.
SEF.

C'mon Elmo, what's the real story why you hate them so much? Almost every GA company is crook but you seem to hate this mob just a bit too much and I suspect that there is a reason for it that you aren't letting on to the viewers at home.
Besides, I applaude any GA company that pays it's pilot's $75K a year. I say good on them. Wish that there were more companies doing exactly the same.
I'd hapily go work for them if I was in the market and I wouldn't give a rat's coitus fundamentus about what any washed up old bitter and twisted CP from some rival operator thought about it either!

V2
Competition is somthing that all business do. However, when one business is subsidised it has a negative impact on the industry overall. Yes GA is very competitive and there are many businesses that go under for a variety of reasons, when one is subsidised, however, competition goes out the window and we take a counterproductive step towards a socialist sturcture that inevitably reduces productivity and the size of the industry overall. That means our jobs are bieng exposed to yet another destablising influence.
It would be great to earn $75k for flying singles around and it is possible for all of us to do. Running drugs, guns or the like is very profitable but in a similar way counterproductive to your career.
No malice intended to you V2, I have seen the dirty end of an operation as did 14 other pilots. Lies and omissions that make Desperate Housewives look like a great bunch of people and it is not somthing that any of us will forget in a hurry.
