Question for Skippers or Network chaps

Sitting at the lovely Perth airport the other day with, as usual, plenty of taxi time to have a good look around and ponder the universe.
Wating at taxiway D to T/O on 24, watched 4 conquests/bras take the full length and get airborne just after passing D, this probably added ( with other arrivals thrown in ) 5 or 10 minutes to our departure, what gives ?
I take it you blokes are heading out to 1500m or less strips ( probably dirt ), but can't do an intersection departure off 24.
Not a wind up , a genuine inquiry.

T/O on 24
From D? You sure?

If you mean 21, you take off in turn. Doesn't matter what INT you're using or how big you are.

To answer your question, the size/type/INT used bears very little resemblance to your delayed dep. The problem seems to be in the ATC ether. The wire between PER and MEL is too long.

Must've been a howling wind. I've only taken off on RWY24 once in the last 11 years.

If as Bloggs has suggested the 24 bit's a typo, then the Skippers a/c would most likely taxi down W, the old RWY11/29 then use full length RW21, as it's the shortest route to RWY21.

Not sure where Network commence taxy from, so can't comment.

If there are obvious ATC delays, it makes absolutely no sense to hold at an intersection awaiting takeoff clearance when the same time could be taken going for the full length and still be airborne in correct turn, or even at a slightly later time when delays in the departure or climb may perhaps be avoided. The locals usually know best.

Do you guys do reduced thrust take offs to better look after the engines?

Both Skippers and Network enter on to Whiskey for R21 departures.

1) It is only a stones throw away to the holding point which just so happens to be the full length.

2) Having acft clog up taxi way Delta at 6am or 1 pm would cause alot of issues for domestic apron flow.

Hope that helps

The length of the line is immaterial. The Tower and Departures coordinate each departure. Once the aircraft is airborne, coordination is done to Melbourne Centre.

PS there's no such thing as ATC delays. It's a feature of Perth that everyone wants to depart and return at the same time. It just doesn't work.

Gas Chamber,

Oh yes it does. It saves wear and tear on the tyres. What's the point taking off in a prop with 13,000ft instead of 10,000ft of runway available? What are you going to do... force-land straight ahead if you lose one at 50ft? I hope you don't always "go to the end for safety's sake". Your outfit will go broke with pilots like you!
