If you miss it on TV, make sure you're in Perth on the 3rd week of november, and see it live.

I told a non-aviating mate about it recently. He's a V8 supercar freak, and after watching the first race he's now hooked.

Pity that the TV slot is only a piss-poor half hour on a Sunday arvo, with only the race highlights instead of full coverage, but at least it's good that Channel 10 is airing it in the first place. Aviation needs more positive exposure to a larger audience, and my friend is now excited about something he otherwise would have had no knowledge or interest in. Wouldn't it be great if, given time, it built up enough of a following amongst the general population to be in the same league as motor F1!

Cool

This really is a case of "You had to be there!" TV just can't do it justice. If you can possibly see it live, do so!!

G'day

Jerrym (or anyone else!)

Is there a website for the Air Race to be held in Perth?

Or any info about ticketing? Tried Googling to no avail!

Try www.redbullairrace.com

Looks like a great weekend, pity it's not going to be on the east coast. Could you imagine them flying around Sydney Harbour or the Gold Coast?

Perth isn't really the most exotic place, were they the only local government who'd support the race?

yea, yea, yea, B X. The world doesn't revolve around the east coast. At least I'm out of the aviation game (and it is a game) but I can't stand whingers. If you don't like Perth, don't apply to Skywest, Skippers or whatever.

Abu Dhabi, Berlin, St Petersberg, Istanbul, Budapest, San Francisco, Perth...

Perth? Doesn't really fit in, that's all.

You're right, the world doesn't revolve around the east coast, but I'd thought they'd want Sydney for sure (even though it's a dump).

And don't worry, I'm not planning to take the precious jobs at SkyWest.

Perth is perfect for the air race. The race no doubt will be over the river with the crowd absolutely packed on either side of the river. I can't think of a better place where the crowd will see all of the action.

Go Perth!

Actually I thought of Canberra - races over Lake Burley Griffin with crowds on the foreshore. But like anything that exciting would happen in Canberra....

'scuse my French, but WTF are you on about?!!!

Okay, so Perth isn't such a 'grand' city to have on the calendar, but don't forget Red Bull were happy to hold the event in Rotterdam in the past and Perth is one heck of a lot easier on the eye. As for Abu Dhabi... come on, not exactly a 'world city' next to the rest, is it?

Back to my point. Besides Perth boasting a very attractive skyline and a stunning river, it's also a perfect place for crowds to gather as both Obiwan and Time Bomb Ted attest.

I've been lucky enough to see warbird air-display practices happening over the river whilst up on Kings Park and I can tell you I can't think of a better vantage point to take it all in. And that's anywhere in Australia. Besides being close to the action from up on the hill, the views over the city are stunning. Been here 10 years and every time I go up there the views never cease to impress me!

Down below on either side of the Swan, the views of the city are gorgeous and you'll still be very close to the action. Of course, with all that wide-open space along South Perth's foreshore and huge tracts of land that make up Langley Park on the city side, thousands can... and will gather to watch it.

Too bad for anyone on the East Coast. Perth deserves some events and the Air Race is perfect for this city.

With the numbers seen at last years Airshow held at Pearce AFB, you can guarantee people will support Perth's Air-Race in droves. If they don't, fine, send Australia's 2007 event somewhere on the East Coast, but I'll EAT MY DAVID CLARK 13.4's if Perth proves to be a flop!

Stop being a tightwad, dust off your credit card, fly over for the event and see it for yourself before you start bagging Perth as a venue choice. Me thinks you'll be pleasantly sursprised!

It'd be even better if I was living there

The Red Bull Air Race organisation is a very professional and exciting company.

It will be a great mix for Perth. I wish I could make it.

Well, for those of you who are going to miss this year's race in Perth, start saving for next year. Perth has a contract for 3 years Gauranteed, with the option of another 3 so if you miss this one, there's always next year. Plus it'll be bigger next year. And that's not to say that this year is going to be small. The organisers are looking at a 4 day, festival of aviation. It's not just going to be air racing, but quite literally a 4 day airshow on the banks of the swan river infront of perth city. It'll make Avalon look like a Private Pilot fly-in.
