Noise Monitors Location at major airports

With Noise Abatement Procedures published for most major airports around Australia, can anyone tell me the type of noise monitors that are placed strategically under flight paths to catch the offenders? (if any in Australia).
Where are these noise monitors placed and are their positions published in AIP?
Are they sophisticated listening devices linked to computers - or just disgruntled pensioners who love media and CASA attention? In UK and Europe, the noise police are quite deadly and too many reports can see a operator banned from an airport. At some airports in Europe, a vehicle parks near the runway and reports any noise above idle reverse thrust on aircraft landing.

The procedures may be published but I don't think anyone is serious enough about it to bother about who made what level of noise- certainly not in the same way that they are at LHR and FRA!

Hi

There is a system of electronic noise monitoring units (EMU's) at most major airports. The system also has a feed from airport radar to correlate the noise to the aircraft.

Its a locally produced system by Lochard

Bevan..

Hi Centi. (Hope all the rotating valve Seals are in working order)

Further to Bevan66's info, WIA (Perth Airport Corp) produce a quarterly noise report. It is available to the operators upon request.

While I did,nt have a really good read, I did see the noise footprint diagrams and some excersions outside the (approved?) overlays.

Not aware that anyone has ever been pulled up over them, and we do have those sweet sounding 727's operating from over here during the early morning and evening.

Exclamation Re: Noise Monitors Location at major airports

I didn't know this outfit existed ...
http://www.aeru.com.au/pages/page187.asp

I had a look at the Sydney report and near the end they give the suburbs where the instruments are.
I'm impressed with the detail...

(but I'm still -off with little jons' share the noise decree)

Re: Noise Monitors Location at major airports

I loved this!

The complaints from East Ryde....

East Ryde Complaints =191 Complainants = 5

5 people whinging...

They will drive themselves into an early grave getting so stressed about things like this.

At least then the complaints might stop though!
