QF aptitude test preperation
I was wondering if anyone could recommend any courses that help prepare you for the qf psychometric test? I attended one and it was excellent for the maths, cubes and commands but not the verbal reasoning. I applied for the 2006 qantas cadets program and was knocked back because of my test results. I feel my verbal reasoning let me down. Could anyone recommend one of the courses that assists you with the verbal reasoning side of the test. Does anyone know if your age can go against you in your application as I am only 18 years old?

Hey mate,
I can't recomend any courses but I can give you the names of a few books that I found some good practice questions in (similar to the QF style).
- 'more how to win at aptitude tests' - liam healy
- And there's a series of books by Hodder Arnold enititled 'succeed at psychometric testing' in which you may be able to find a book dedicated to verbal reasoning.
- There's also some good practice q's on the SHL website
This is one of the hardest of the aptitude tests to prepare for. Reading often is probabaly the best thing you can do to improve your performance in this test.

Thanks alot Paul56, I attended a course in Brisbane cause I am from the Gold Coast. Yeah, the commands and cubes can be easily picked up by lots of practice and learning certain techniques. Could anyone recommend the PATS courses and if they help alot with the verbal reasoning side of things? Are you employed with QF Paul56?
Barberspole - 5, for the verbal reasoning side of things, QF give you a paragraph and 3 or 4 statements (can't remember the exact number). From the information in that paragraph and only that information, you must state whether the statement is true, false or can't tell. You get approximately 30 seconds for each statement.

Hey BUA interested to know how you know it was your test results that caused you too fail. I cannot get through this stage of testing and don't know why. I am sure my maths and verbal reasoning are great.

I felt I did well in the maths, commands and symbols. I did a course that gave me loads of sample questions for cubes and commands as well as the maths. As I have just finished high school, I felt that I did well in the maths. The course I did showed me ways to easily solve the cubes and commands. With practice, commands and cubes become fairly easy. I felt I did poorly in verbal reasoning. I am unaware if my personality test went against me or my age aswell, as I am only 18. I thought some sort of flying experience would of helped me as I had my PPL when I applyed, but obviously this doesn't give you an advantage. I know I passed the skills test cause you must pass that before you can attempt the psychometric test. Were you applying for the cadet program or direct entry?

I am unaware whether or not this has always been the case, but this year, the ladies that took us into the testing room explained that sitting the psychometric test will be dependent on your results in the skills test.

What a load of 
ing QF crap. Pull back, the houses get smaller, push forward and they get bigger. Engine failure, push leg forward as if stretching until a little black ball ( or blue triangle on the Bus ) is put into the middle and keep the blue part on the PFD level and facing up. Then remove candidate from Sim and go for a walk down to the corner pub having a chat on the way. One then starts to get a sense whether the candidate maybe a **** head or not. Fill them full of grog, then see how they react and behave whilst pissed. Then their true colours and character become somewhat obvious. Then tick the box "Pass or Fail".

This psychometric testing is a load of nonsense. QF are missing out on great pilots because they can't pass this stupid test. I wonder if many other airlines will follow suit. As most of you probably know, to get through the psychometric test when applying as a cadet, the pass mark is higher than that for direct entry pilots. From what I have heard, it is around 10% higher. This is similar with the skills test, if cadets don't pass the skills test they don't go through to the psychometric test. If direct entry pilots don't pass the skills they still do the psychometric test. I'm not sure how true this information is, but the person who ran my psychometric test preperation course informed us of this.

Yes those swine who sell you old year 10 maths in society info and a few folded cubes which can be made up on ones own
would know what pass criteria QF use for direct entry vs cadets. Ha Ha !
