Nig. My guess Tinpis's Porter would have been P2-SEA in PNG, not in New Zealand. An overloaded Porter is hardly a fair comparison to an overloaded Twotter - in Australia/PNG the Porter was limited to a Max Gross Weight - from memory - of 4,850 pounds, whilst the US military operated at something over 6,000 pounds.

There is a section in the flight manual from memory, that deals with overweight ferrying I think?

I can say that at 3 tonnes over max the Tyres are completely squashed flat and the legs spayed. (miscommunication with cargo personnel) So at five, the fuse would have to be pretty close to sitting on the ground.

From memory the Twotter has a ferry weight of 17500lbs and it is in the flight manual as a supplement. I have on more than one occasion seen a ferry weight Twotter take off. It is a curvature of the earth take off.
One time I saw a Kenn Borek otter come in from a ferry with ferry tanks, 20 litre fuel drums and other gear, I am sure the ferry weight was a healthy 17500lbs. They are an aircraft which over the years have been used and abused but have stood up to it. I have pics to prove it. They are one of my favourite aircraft.

It were not far off a 402 watever that was.

Why didn't someone take the "keys" off him? instead of just looking on???? If he wasn't smart enough to work it out himself?
