WA man died in accident near Ballidu

Man killed in light plane crash

A 43-year-old Western Australian man has been killed in a light plane crash.

The single engine plane, believed to be a crop duster, came down in scrub land near the Wheatbelt town of Ballidu this afternoon.

Police say it is not known what caused the crash.

Air safety investigators are on their way to the scene of the crash, about 200 kilometres north-east of Perth.

The crash site has been cordoned off and police will remain there until the investigators arrive.

The man is from the town of Dalwallinu, about 50 kilometres from where the crash happened.

AT-602 Crash

Last night's TV news showed wreckage of AT-602, VH - NIT, of a local WA Cropspraying co.

Today's Sunday Times reports incident, but no name released at this stage. Pilot believed to have been practising 'waterbombing' for forthcoming fire season.

Sad, and sincere condolences to family concerned.
