Another AirServices Maps price rise
As of today 4th Apr WAC charts rise from $6.35 to $9.95 for the paper ones and $9.95 to $14.95 for the laminated. Also rises to TAC charts $3.85 to $9.20 and further rises to AIP, DAPeast and DAPwest. Just another rise in the overall cost to the poor underpaid pilot in the GA arena. How much more do Airservices think they can extract from this area.
Yes, all this so-called cost recovery from users is a bit over the top from a government agency, even when they are trying to run themselves along the lines of profit-making organisations.
There has to be a tradeoff between providing services efficiently and maintaining a reasonable price to users so that everyone will have up-to-date charts and documents to promote safe operations.
As taxpayers, we have already paid for a portion of our government-provided services, and sometimes the seemingly arbitrary nature of the changes in pricing that they make are a bit much.
How about knocking a dollar a day off MPs' travel allowances or whatever and making our charts cheaper?
It's all very well when the company provides the documentation, but when you're buying them yourself, it's not so hot.

Wasn't that long ago your taxes seemed to pay for all government services.

The price rise were probably a direct result from the AsA "Chalet" at Avalon. Have a look at the cost of a chalet, add the cost of the food, staff, and alcohol, and you don't get much change out of $70K.
No wonder we get price hikes on the "easy mark".
